THE EDUCATION QUESTION.

There is no gainsaying the fact that the modus operandi suggested by him is the proper one, and the only means whereby we may expect to have our just demands conceded by the Legislature of this Colony. The old adage, " Union is strength," waß perhaps never better applied than in this oase, and so long as the Catholic electors of this Colony allow themselves to be entirely carried away by other political questions to the utter exclusion of this most important one, so long will we be compelled to bear our burden of oppression which is annually becoming heavier and heavier.

Borne time previous to the last general election, a committee was formed in this city with the object of assisting the movement, bnt it was found that the most effective means of doing so would be to unite the whole Catholic community of the Colony in one solid phalanx to be guided by the one spirit. As time did not permit of this being done the efforts for that election were fruitless. I trust that this matter will not be put aside until the next election is drawing near and the same performance repeated.

This question of Catholic claims is by no means confined to the Catholic community alone. It has a vast number of supporters outside, and the opinion of many of these is, that the surest way of having our claims recognised is by mustering our forces and working quietly together. I am quite confident that the united voices of the Catholic electors of the Colony together with tbe support which they receive from outaide, if properly marshalled would undoubtedly give good results. But at preßent, and so long as we remain in the dis - united condition we are in, there is not tbe slightest chanca of improving our condition.— l am, etc,, Jachin, Christchnrch, January 5, 1895.
