ST MARY'S SCHOOL, MOSGIEL.

On Monday the distribution of prizes took place ia the local Catholic School. A number of friends of the pupils assembled in the afternoon, and several choruses were rendered by the children. The Rev Father O'Neill distributed the prizes, and afterwards complimented the children upon the successful examination, which had recently been held under the diocesan inspector of schools, the Very Rev Father Burke. It was highly gratifying to know that there had bsen scarcely a failure, especially considering the illness that had prevailed amongst the children during the past winter and spring. The teacher, Miss McLachlan, had reason to be much pleased at the result of the year's work, which could only have bsen attained by constant and assiduous care and painstaking on her part. The following ia the prize list : —

Standard Vl. —English, Margaret Kaott (Mrs O'Kane's prize); arithmetic, Teresa O'Brien, Margaret Kaott (Mr Condon's prize); Christian Doctrine, Margaret Knott, Teresa O'Brien, John Dwyer (Father O'Neill's prizs).

Standard V. — English, Minnie Ross (Mr O'Donnell's prize) ; arithmetic, Minnie Rose, Louisa Hawk (Mr Knott's prize) ; Christian doctrine, Mary Sheehan.

Standard IV.— English, Mary Gilligan (Mr Columb's prize) ; arithmetic, William Mehalski, G Sequin, T Griffith ; Christian Doctrine, Mary Gilligan, James Mears.
