The visit of the U.S. flag ship Chicago to the ports of Cork and Dublin last month evoked a welcome the warmth of which is not likely to be Boon forgotten by Admiral Erben and hia command. American men-of-war have been in Queenstown harbour before, notably on one or two occasions when they have been tha bearers of generous help to the famine-Btricken people of Ireland ; but this was the first time that one of our national vessels entered the port of Dublin, and the event was signalised in a becoming manner. In responding to thi toasf, " The United S-ates Navy," Admiral Erben dwelt on the Buccess of Irishmen in the United States and referred especially to their part in the government of the city of New York.
