WAIPAWA CATHOLIC SCHOOL.

The above school was examined by the Rev Father Clancy of St Patrick's College, Wellington. Subjoined ia his report :— The annual examination of the Catholic school of Waipawa took place on Wednesday, December 14, and concluded on the Friday following. The knowledge of the children in the various grades, ranging from the first to the sixth standard inclusive, wu tested in their respective branches. The answering of the pupils in each and every standard was highly creditable, and reflected great praise upon the teachers, upon the parents who so assiduously watched over the punctual and regnlar attendance of the children, and finally upon the children themselves, who took so hugaly to their books. The pupils evinced a thorough knowledge in Christian doctrine. Their reading, too, especially in the higher grades, calls for special mention, as it indicated the keen perception which the pupils possessed not only of the substance but also of the more delicate shades of thought and expression contained in their lessons ; nor are their acquirements in grammar, geography and arithmetic less praiseworthy. The school, although in its infancy, numbers from sixty to seventy, It promises well, and will undoubtedly be productive of good results ; so that, notwithstanding the pecuniary sacrifices and isolation from State patronage which Catholics need must experience rather than sacrifice principle to expediency, they may congratulate themselves in the consciousness of having done their duty in making as Earl Glasgow said at St Patrick's College, their children " successful citizens in the country to which they belonged and in the future citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven."

Father Keegan is to be congratulated on the success of the children and the efficiency of his school.
