(Prom an Occasional Correspondent.) July 4th, 1892. At St Mary's Church last Sunday week, the Ber Father Grogan drew attention to the difficulty of supporting the schools. It was very hard on the Brothers, who had to live, and who, because of having no mean?, were unable to go anywhere during the holidays. The education of the children was of the greatest importance. " 1 would like to ask," he said, " how long is this state of things to exist in which the Catholics have to maintain their own schools and teachers, besides being heavily taxed for the State schools 1 ' — With regard to the forthcoming bazaar in aid of a new church, the Bey Father stated that it bad got a very good start, and he thought the circumstances were very favourable. He urged all Catholics to do something towards making it a success, and impressed upon his hearers the desirability of unanimity in the matter. The half-yearly meeting of St John's branch, No. 93, H.A.G.8.5., was held on Wednesday evening, when the following officers wera elected : — President, Bro B. Coe ; vice-president, Bro T. Sheehan ; secretary, Bro J. Moroney ; treasurer, Bro B. Brophy ; guardian, Bro J. Clerkin ; warden, Bro E. Henry ; sick visitor^ Bros E. Brophy and J. Lynatn. The following officers were elected at the half-yearly meeting of 8t Joseph's branch, Hastings :— President, Bro P. Macmahon ; vicepresident, Bro P. Henney ; treasurer, Bro J. Barry ; warden, Bro P. Maggio ; gaardian, Bro John Donnelly ; sick visitors, Bros Brandon and Connolly. Drs Linney and Faulknor were elected medical attendants.
