THE DUTY OF CATHOLICS.

(Brooklyn Catholit Review,) Thb Duty of Catholics, is the title of a very significant article, taken from La Revista Cattolica, of Las Wgas, New Mexico. There are many, Tery many reasons why this subject should receive the most careful consideration of Catiulics in all parts of the world. Why is it that a email number of energetic, determined workers, are to-day ruling the world, while the Catholics are the majority of the governed? Ask the Socialists, the Guribaldiane, the Jews who control the daily Press in Italy. Why is it that a faw infidels and Freemasons ara driving the reli«iouo from the hospitals and other institutions of Prance 1 Because Catholics are * pathetic and indifferent. Why is it that a possible ten millions or more Catholics in the United States cannot eupport one daily paper that would represent them truly and be a credit to them and to their religion ? Because they are williog to meekly take the sneers, the jibes and the ridicule of a bitterly hostile Pre?B and pay them for their insults. They read with patience the lies told to-day about the Hjly Father, the bisbops and priests of the Churcn and wait until to-morrow to have them retracted or contradicted. They read with the greatest composure about the ignorance, the vicus, the immorality of Catholics in other parts of the world, as if religion could have one kind of moral code for the Doited States and anotner for South America. Tho Revista has taken this f rum Ihe Messenger of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, " We confers, with shame, in view of the feverish activity of the hostile Press that the Catholic Propaganda, by meant of periodicals, circulars and tracts and by meias of engravings, pictures, chromos and the like, gives very little sign of life.
