The funeral of the late Sir Richard Burton, who died at Trieste, as will be remembered, in October last, and whose body was brought over to EDgland by his widow, and deposited for a time in the vault of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Mortlake, took place on Monday morning. Lady Burton was heraelf present, and about four hundred friends, sympathisers and admirers of the famous Irish traveller, attended. The Requiem Mass was sune by the Right Rev. the Hod. Monsignor Stanley, of Spanish place Church, assisted by Deacon and Sub-Deacon Fathers White and Regan. An efficient choir attended and sang the music of Casiolini. The "In Paradisum " by Father Cox, on the way to the tomb, and a harmonised " Benedictus "at the gc*ve-side were very touchingly rendered. Provost Wenham, Priest of the Mission at Mortlake, sang the last prayers. The tomb represents an Arab tent, and the inside forms a small chapel with altar, and is the gift of friends. A crucifix is placed over the entrance. Cardinal Manning wrote regretting his inability to attend.
