For nearly eighty years the House of Commons has, says the Weekly Reguter, been accustomed to vote a pension of £10 a year to \ prrsun who appears in the Estimates aa the "Diughter of a Ton* lonese emigrant." What her name is, and why her father* emigration en tab iabed a claim on the British taxpayer, are questions frequently a*ked in the House of Commons, but never answered. The general, vague impression is that the unknown father of this anonymous danghter emigrated at the time that Napoleon was a captain in the French Artillery and began to distinguish himself at Toulon, and that is nearly a hundred ytars ago. The Treasnrr recently discovered that the lady is dead, and this year, for the first time within the memory of living man, this sum of £10 will not be asked for in Committee of Supply.
