Store Sheep .—There are a good many inquiries for young crossbred and merino wethers, a few of which are changing hands. Aged ewes are not so much in demand yet there are buyers for these at suitable prices. The changeable weather experienced during the month is retarding shearing operations, and prevents sellers from being able to fumisk lists of the number they may have for disposal, immediately they are to hand we have no doubt a considerable amoout of business will ensue. Sheepskins.— These continue in good demand at our regular weekly auction held on Tuesday, we had a full attendance of buyeis who comp3ted with spirit, and the catalogue which consisted of a large number of butchers green pelts, in addition to a numerous and varied collection of country dry skin*, was all cleared, there being an excellent demand for all soits at prices quite equal in some instances, more especially for green crossbred pelts over last weeks. A few sales for local requirements are being made of both medium and best, but buyers continue reticent, and while giving up the late rates they purchase sparingly. Stacks of prime milling are now reduced to a small compaßS, but a considerable quantity of inferior and medium is still on hand, which can only be placed on rare occasions and then only at about equal to the price of fowl's wheat. Several parcels of the former were disposed of this week but at prices showing no improvement on previous quotations. Stocks are being gradually reduced, but owing to the supplies at all the Australian markers being still heavy no material improvement in value can be looked for. Present quotations are for prime milling, Is 6d to la 6£d ; best short bright feed, la s£d to la 6d ; medium to good, la 5d to Is 6Jd ; musty and discoloured, 9d to la 3d (ex store, sacks extra).— Barley : The business done in this cereal in the meantime is limited. Grass Seed, — A small business is being done in ryegrass seed, but the buyers are still few and only operate at prices which moat sellers at present consider somewhat low, the latter meantime preparing to wait the autumn demand. We quote — Medium dressed, 3s to 3s 6d ; undressed, Is 6d to 2s 6d (sacks extra). Cocksfoot still continues alow of sale, email parcels are occasionally disposed of, but no sales of any consequence are being made. Quotations nominal, 3d to 4£d per lb. Potatoes.— Deliveries from the North Island eased off slightly during the past week, and in consequence the market is less glutted, but the supply is still quite equal to trade requirements, all offering, however, of good quality are readily placed at a alight advance on last week's rates. Consignments from Oamaru are coming to hand freely, good quality, but too small for general use, and not in favour with the dealers. We quote— Beat grown Otago Perinsula, 70s to 80s ; Oamaru, 60s to 65s per ton. Chaff. — A steady demand continues to be experienced for well cut heavy chaff at full market rates. The supply is moderate, and all offering is readily placed on arrival. We quote— Best oaten chaff, 60s to 67a 6d ; inferior to medium and good, 20s to 55s per ton. Dairy Produce. — The market continues exceedingly quiet, there is no demand for export, and the small sales that are being made here are confined to the supplying of local requiremtnts.
