The Journal of the Geological Society for August 19 specially notable for Professor Prestwich's paper on "The Date, Duration, and Conditions of the Glacial Period." His conclusions are of much interest in their bearing on the antiqu'ty of man. Supposing^palaeolithic man to be of 30-called pre-glacial age, a supposition which the author is disposed to entertain, we need not assign to him an antiquity of more than 20,000 or 30,000 years ; but if, as some authorities argue paleolithic man aid not appear in this part of the world until past glacial times, his antiquity becomes reduced to about 15,000 or even 10,000 yeais. In either case the estimate is much leas than that uau-Jly "accepted by geological anthropologists.
