On Tuesday morning, July 26th, before a crowded congregation in the Church of the Maridt Fathers, St. Anne's, Spicer street, Spitalfields, the Right Rev. Dr. Grimes, formerly Superior of the Congregation of Marists at Paignton, in.the diocese of Plvm <uth, and lately connected with the same Order in the East-End of London, was consecrated Bishop of Christchurcb, New Zealand, one of seveial Vicariates Apostolic in different parts of the world erected into a See by a recently-promulgated rescript of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII. The consecrating prelate was the Right Rev. Dr. Vaughan, Bishop of Salford, the assisting Bishops being the Right Rev. Dr. Butt, Bishop of Bouthwark, and the Right Rev. Dr. Patterson, Bishop of Emmaus. There was a numerous gathering of priests, including Mgr. Harrington Moore, and tbe Very Key Father JeaDtin, S.M., representing the Very Rev. Superior-General of ihe Society of Mary ; the Very Key. Father Joly, S.M., the Very Rev. E. Artignan, S.M., the Very Rev." Leo Thomas, S.M., the Rev. Fathers Hobson ( tixerer), Parker (New-ton-Abbot), Graham (Liskeard, Cornwall), Husaey, Lawless, M. A. Kelly, T. Doyle, F. Stanfield, George Cox, Ruat, S.M., De Mijolla, S.M., Hicks, S.M., Pimor, S M., Hills, S.M., Kennedy, S.M., Cologan, Gaughren, 0.M.1., J. Maber, Schmitz, J. Connolly, W. Barry, G. Delandy, etc., as well as Franciscan and Dominican Fathers. Six Charles Clifford. Bart., and J. Young, Esq , were also present. The Anatoli, a Greek < athulic journal published in the island of Syra, announces the conversion of the Archimandrite Anasiasiadis of Tinos to the Boman Catholic fahh. The rank of Archimandrite in. the Greek Church corresponds to that of Abbot of an important monastery in the Catholic.

Preparations are being made at the Chiselhurst Catholic Church for the removal of the sarcophagus of the late Emperor Napoleon 111. and the body of the late Prince Imperial to tbe new mausoleum which the ex-Empress Eugenic has built at Farnborough. Father Denea, director of the Observatory of Moncalieri, has addressed to the clergy a circular-letter inviting those especially who occupj, themselves with scientific studies to offer as homage to tbe Pope on the occasion of his sacerdotal Jubilee instruments of meteorology constructed by members of the Italian clergy attached to that kind of study. The instruments placed in the Vatican Exposition will testify that tht clergy take au active part in the advancement of science.

The Mendard of Montreal informs ita readers that his Holiness has deigned to erect into a basilica the sanctuary of St. Anne de Beaupie, in the diocese of Quebec, and that the miraculous statue of the saint, venerated therein, will be lolemnly crowned, in the name of Leo XIII., as that of St. Anne d'Auray, in France, was crowned in the name of Pius IX ,the Pope desiring thus to glorify the Patroness of French Canada. The crowns for St. Anne and the Blessed Virgin will be of massive gold, the gifts of the women of Canada. The Jesuits propose to erect a college in Colorado, and Denver people are anxious *,nat their city be chosen as the site for the Beat of learning. Thirty acres of ground have been donated by wealthy gentlemen. Ten more acres are required, but it is doubtful if suitable arrangements can be made. Colorado Springs is also anxious to have the collet e erected there, and for that purpose sent a delegation to visit the Jesuit Fathers to offer them 120 acres of land and 25,000dol« The proposition is being considered,

Soaur Havard, on whom this high and weighty responsibility has fallen, spent many years in the distant mission of South America, and since her return to France has held the post of superioress of the house at Verdun, and of late occupied an important position at the mother house in the Rue de Bac Paris His Grace the Most Rev. Dr. Logue, Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh, has severed his connection with the diocese of Raphoe He has taken up hie abode in Dundalk, of which he is the parish priest. Cardinal Gibbons has appointed a comorttee of clergymen to make suitable arrangements for the due observance of the Pope's Jubilee. It is proposed to present to the Pooe a copy of every Catholic work printed in the archdiocese of Baltimore since its foundation, photographs of all the churches and institutions, and samples of handiwork executed by females in institutions in tke archdiocese, and a handsomely mounted case containing minerals of the State of Maryland. The Very Reverend Monsignor Power, of Halifax, died suddenly in that city on Tuesday, the 21st June. Monsignor Power was a native of Halifax, and studied in St. Mary's College in that city and subsequently in Carlow College, Ireland. His priestly labours extending over a period of thirty-six years, were in the city of his birth. On three occasions he was appointed administrator of the diocese, after the deaths of Archbishops Connelly and Hannon and while Archbishop Ryan was absent in Rome. Twice he was mentioned for the archbishopric himself, but remonstrated against all use of his name for that distinction. Just six years ago the Pope conferred the purple upon him and raised him to the dignity of Monsignor. & J The Pope has sanctioned the decision of the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda to divide the existing diocese of L*avenwor th Kansas, United States, erecting therefrom the three dioceses of Leavenworth, underthe present titular, Hight Rev. James O'Keilley, of Leavenworth is named first Bishop ; and that of Concordia. of which see the Rsv Richard Scannell, the Vicar-General of the diocese of Nashville, Term, is nominated Bishop. Likewise his Holiness has approved of the decree of that Sacred Congregation to divide the existing diocese of Omaha, with the erection of the three dioceses of Omaha, under the present titular, Right Rev. James O Connor, of Lincoln, of which Key. Thomas Bonacum, of St. Louis Mon is appointed first Bishop ; and that of Cheyenne, of which see the Rev. Maurice Burke, of Chicago, is nominated Bishop
