The cutter Kent, when crossing Foveaux Strait from Stewart Island to the Bluff on Saturday, was thrown on her beam ends, and narrowly escaped being capsized. The crew were at first puzzled to account for the occurrence, but the mystery was explained by the appearance of a large whale going astern of the vessel.
