ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL, DUNEDIN.

The annual distribution of prizes took place at this Bchool on Tarsday afternoon, June 25, his Lordship the Bishop officiating. The programme was as follows :—: — Pianoforte trio, " Les Chasseurs," the Misses Connor ; pianoforte solo, " Gay Posies " (Spindler), Miss M. Connor ; chorus, " Gaily through the Greenwood "(Young), the' pupilß of St. Joseph's. — Distribution of certificates to Ist Standard. — Pianoforte solo, " Der Lustige Bauer " (Schuman), Mias Murphy : juvenile chorus, " The Boat Song." — Distribution of certificates to 2nd Standard. — Hymn to the Sacred Heart, "Behold, 0 Lord," Pupila of Sd. Joseph's ; pianoforte daet, "Norma" (Bellini;, the Misses Connor.— Distribution of certificates to Low 3rd. Standard.— Song, "Gentle Faces " CT. Bonheur), Miss Murphy ; pianoforte solo, " Theme Allemand" (Leybach), Misa Moloney. — Distribution of certificates to High 3rd. Standard.— Song and chorus, " The Dear Little Shamrock" (Jackson), Miss Murphy and Pupils of St. Joseph's.— Distribution of certificates to 4th. Standard.— Pianoforte duet, ''Waltz," (Mattei), Misses Maloney and Murphy ; chorus, " Home dear Home " (Rev/ SI A.Graley.) The Bishop express, d himself as very much pleased at the results of this year's examinations, at which the percentage of passes was most creditable, and tbe number of promotions extremely high.— The important subjects especially of I nglish, arithmetic, and geography weie remarkable for the proficiency shown by the pupils. Among the most remarkable fruits of the year, moreover, was the exhibition of needlework, which was particularly deserving of attention. > „ • Some very good plain sowing was exhibited by E.Trinder, M. Drumm, A. Rabbitr, J. Hartnett, Josephine Drumm, and R. Browne. A handsome silk eraoroiderdd cushion worked by S. Triader, and a black satin table-border, French embroidered, by Justina Connor were much admired. Amongst the samples of faucy wool-work exhibited, the Tarn O'Shanters, babies' muffi, and bunches of artificial flowers, made bj the children of the higher standards were deservedly praised. On the whole, the Dominican Nuns may be sincerely congratulated on the results of their labours in connection with this school, which have proved this year even more than usually success! at.
