In the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. J. W. Thomson gave notice that he would move as an amendment to the Adress-in-Reply— "That the Government as constituted do not possess the ccn-

fidence of the House." Mackenzie moved the Address-in - Reply, Mr. Walker seconding the motion. Mr. J. W. The Times also announces that the Chinese Government is understood to have determined to oppose the French occupation of Kelung by force of arms, and that 5000 Chinese troops are about to proceed to Kelung. Thirteen hnndred French troops have sailed from Algiers for Tonquin. The health of Her Majesty the Queen in such that she requires repose, and in consequence Her Majesty has declined to see KiDg Tawhiao and the members of the Maori embassy. A death has occurred at Birmingham from a disease which is pronounced by the local medical authorities to be undoubted Asiastic cholera. The appearance of the disease in England has caused much alarm, and great efforts are being made to prevent its possible spread. Latest accounts from Toulon state that the cholera is increasing there daily. It is also rapidly spreading throughout Italy, and several deaths from the disease have occurred ia various towns. The meat by the steamer Doric is selling at 6£d per lb. A Nihilist outrage has been, reported from Kasan, a town situated on the Biver Kaanak, 450 miles east of Moscow. One of the magazines situated a short distance from the town was exploded, killing 100 persons. Five officers in the employ of the Governor of Kasan were also killed.

John Inglis's license, section 16, block X., Teviot, was cancelled at his request. Messrs. Royse, Bsead and Co.'s timber license, Otara, was extended for a year. M. M'Lennon's application for a reduction of rent oa run 446, Waikawa was declined. M. Bayley's application for time to pay rent, section 10 block VIII., Waihemo, was adjourned until September 10. Government was recommended to set apart for sale as suburban deferred-payment, at tbe price formerly mentioned, sections at Waikoikoi ; the area asked for in the same district as a gravel reserve, by the County Council, was considered too large. Consideration of S. B. Green's application to purchase sections at Clarendon and Akatore was deferred until the County Council forwards a survey of the road deviations. A. M'Kay's application to purchase 100 acres, sectiqn 11, block XIII., Greenvale, was received. W. Marshall's offer of 6d per acre rental of section 15. block XIII., Blackstone, was declined. Section 23, block XVI., Havelock, was appointed to be offered for sale by auction at first opportunity on the application of J. R. York. On the application of D. Haugb, Government was recommended to open under perpetual leasing system section 15, block XVII., Crookston. Section 8, block VII., Wendon, was ordered to be offered for sale at upset price of £3 per acre, subject to £333 12a 6d value of J. So uire's improvements. J. Ward's application to capitalise section 16^ block V., was approved. The licenses of D. G. Snodgrass and D. M'Kenzie, Mount Hyde, were declared forfeited. William Marshall's tender for section 11, block VII., same district, was accepted. The following applications to purchase lands held under deferred-payment leases were approved of r—John Dickson, section 17 block 11., Slopedown ; Anne Johnston, section 3, block 1., Chatton ; John Aitkenhead, sections 10, 12, and 13, block 11., Blackstone.
