At the weekly meeting of the committee of the Society for tba Prevention of Cruelty to Animals yesterday, an arrangement having been agreed to with the Sugar Refining Company as to the terms on ■which they •would let half an acre of their premises at Great Bruns-wick-street for the purpose of a home for cats and dogs, instructions were given to have the necessary legal documents prepared without further delay.— Dublin Express. Pope Leo XIII., at me request of the American Bishop hap appointed the Very Rev. William Kicrnan, D.D., rector and professor of dogmatic theology of Sr. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Pa., the successor of the late Kight Rev. Mgr, Hostlot, as president of the American. College, Rome. The new lector was born in Philadelphia in 1849 ; his piimary education was received in tbat city, and bis classical studies were made at St. Charles Seminary, Overbrook, on the completion of which the late Archbishop Wood sent him to tbe American College, Rome. His theological course was made at the famous College of the Propaganda, when, on account of his proficiency, he was awarded the title of Doctor of Divinity, and promoted to the priesthood, 1872. On his return to this country he was appointed assistant priest at the Cathedral. ■ On the resignation of Dr. Horstman in 1879, he was appointed by Archbishop Wood, the rector of St. Charles Theological Seminary,— Catholic EoraW.
