Austin, Texas, April 16. — News has just reached this city of two terrible crimes committed at a place called Lyons, about nineteen miles from Austin, in Fayette County. The facts in the case are :— At a late hour on Saturday night a burly negro entered the house of Mrs. Moore, and ordered that she prepare a supper for him. The poor woman, though frightened at the presence of such an unwelcome visitor, and the hour being late, refused to comply w»th the negro's demand, whereupon he deliberately procaeded to the woodshed, and taking therefrom an axe returned and brutally murdered the helpless widow. He then fled. Friends of the family arrived soon afterward, and the alarm being given, a. posse of one hundred men set out on the trail of the murderer, and he was captured at an early hour yesterday morning. He was then marched back to the scene of his crime and after beiug identified by the children who witnessed the murder, was then taken to a neighboring wood and ordered to prepare for death. Seeing he had no chance for mercy he confessed his guilt, whereupon a fire was at once kindled, and the unfortunate murderer was made to expiate his crime by one still more horrible — that of being roasted to death. ~Ko arrests have been made, and it is Dot likely that those who dealt out this shocking retribution will be held amenable to law.
