Persons desirous of obtaining valuable bargains will do well to visit Messrs. Mollison, Duthie, and Cos. sale of the bankrupt stock of Messrs. Carter and Peploe, which will be conducted at their establishment, George st, for about the next three weeks, The Limerick election resulted in a more glorious victory for the national cause than had even been anticipated. Mr. M'Mahon polled almost two votes for every one cast for the combination candidate nominated by the Tory-Whig alliance. The choice of the popular party found himself supported by 922 of the electors ; whilst Mr. Spaight was only able to muster a total of 473 votes. So disheartened was this latter gentleman that he failed to put in an appearance at the declaration of the poll, and the task of seconding the vote of thanks to the High Sheriff had to be performed by one of M^? M.'Mahon's supporters. Mr. Spaigbt's absence, however, was not a* matter to cause much surprise. He had met with a crushing defeat. It had been contended all along that, although he might not win the seat, he would at all events prove that a large and respectable body of voters were opposed to the popular programme. The protest made by the united forces of the Wbigs and Tories was simply a ludicrous one. Together they were not able to bring up to support their nominee, who boasted so loudly about being a local man, as many votes as the same gentleman received at the general election, when he attracted the support of 620 electors. In 1879, when there was an election caused by the death of Mr. Butt, Mr. Spaight, who also stood on that occasion, polled 658 votes. It may be seen from these figures that the fortunes of the Whigs and Tories are at a very low ebb indeed in the city of the Violated Treaty.— Nation, Nov. 24.
