Fears are entertained respecting the safety of Father Julian Tennison Woods, wbo left Sydney some time ago en route for Sin°-ap ire Father Woods disembarked at Java, and it is believe i by several of his friends that he was destroyed during the late volcanic n-uption whilst be was engaged ia scientific observations. The nris«nvinc»s' of some, of Father Woods' friends are strengthened by the circumstance that they have not heard from him since he left Sydney whereas he would certainly have written, if possible, either from Javaoi Singapore, — Sydney Freeman. Mr, Alexander SUgo, George street, Dunedin, bas received all the popular annuals of the year, and«numerous publications for children and young people.
