Among the most noticeable features of the first part of the programme were the singing of the Christian Brothers' boys, under the conductorship of Mr. A. A. Corrigan, which was remarkably well executed ; the piano trio by the Misses Connor and Pearson very finely given ; Mr. A. H. Norman's violin solo, which received enthusiastic applause and an encore, and Master C. M'Mahon's recitation. The pupils of St. Joseph' 9 School, whose ranks at present are considerably thinned by the prevalent measles and the effects of the illness, evidently Buffered from extreme nervousness, especially in their first song. The chorus, " Aye Sanctissima," however, wa3 moat pleasingly and feelingly rendered by them. The singers of the solo* went through their parts with credit, and the duet sung by the Misses Cantwell and Carroll was very sweetly given. The scenes from the- " Merchant of Venice " were remarkably well done ; the boys whotook part in them showed a thorough understanding of their task, and went through it with admirable spirit and powers of truthful expression. " Bob Sawyer's Party " was energetically carried ont,. and caused great amusement to the audience. The hall was thronged,, and many people were unable to gain admittance.
