The Gazette de la Croix says : The Pope and the Prussian Government are animated by the moat lively desire to restore a religious peace to Germany. With this object, they have decided to avail themselves of the sole means practicable at this moment— that is to say, the discretionary law. If the work should result happilj, the credit will b 3 due to the initiative of the Holy Father, to whom the German people give the most lively thanks. The two contracting parties, in safeguarding their respective principles, are fairly engaged in the way of reconciliation. Little Eock, Ark., April 22. — Rev. Robert Matlock, who was discovered hanged in Izard county, a few days since, was lynched, as was supposed. Matlock was the preacher of the new-light fanaticism, prevalent in this region. Last year the enthusiasts among hia followers, who believed in blood atonements, under the lead of Matlock, killed six or seven men. Matlock murdered Thomas Miller at a barbecue last August, with a knife. He was captured, ti ied and acquitted as insane. A short time ago a murdered man was found on the top of the mountains, between Telicoand Batesville, and the circumstances pointed strongly to Matlock as the murderer. The community was greatly excited, and Matlock is also supposed to i be a victim of blood atonement.
