Donald Stronach Con behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited), reports for the week ending 29th June, as follows :—: — Fat Cattle. — The supply at Burnside to-day was a very full one, consisting of 301 head, of which 70 were stores. Prices at the opening were about equal to those of last week, but improved as the sales progressed, and as high as 27s 6d per 1001 b was realised for some pens of extra prime quality. Range of prices was : — Bullocks from £5 5s to £13, and cows, £4 17s 6d to £9 2s 6d per head. We sold a draft on account of Mr. William Shand, bullocks from £8 7s 6d to £11 2s 6d, and cows, £5 5s to £6 12s 6d. To-day's prices may be quoted at 26s per 1001 b for prime berf. Fat Calves. — Kight head were sold at from 16s to 36s each. Fat Sheep. — 2525 head were penned, of which 429 were merinos. The number proving in excess of trade requirements, prices showed a decline of Is to Is (id per head, at which the demand was slow. Crossbreds fetched from 11s 3d to 17s 6d, and merinos, 9s 9d to 11s. We sold on account of Messrs. T. and M. Henderson, Moeraki, a draft of cross-breds at 11s Gd to 16s 3d. Quotation for best mutton, 2 Jd per lb. Fat Lambs.— Ninety-three penned, and sold at 7s 9d each. Fat Pigs.— 2l2 were offered and disposed of at from 30s to 60s each. Store pigs fetched from 11s to 25s each. Wool. — Hcpcrts of the progress of the London wool auctions continue to be favourable. Since last Wednesday we have received the following telegram from our London office, dated June 21 :—: — " The s iles progress firmly. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers id active. There is an active demand on French account, but German demand is moderate. Up to date 250,000 bales have been sold ; 10,000 bales have been taken for export. The sale programme has been curtailed by six days." It is announced that the third series will commence on August 23, and that no restriction will be placed on the quantity to be offered. The fourth series is to open on November 22. Sheepskins. — Our sale on Monday was well attended, and competition was animated. Prices obtained show some improvement on those current last week. Butchers' cross-bred skins fetched from 2s to 4s 7d ; merinos, Is lOd to 4s 3d ; pelts, Is Id to Is 3d each ; and greasy skins, in bales, 4|d per lb. Hides are in good demand at fully late prices. We sold several consignments at our weekly auction at from 14s to 22s 6d for average weights, 451 bto 701 b. Tallow is in good enquiry. We report sales at up to 27s per cwt. for prime tallow, and 17s per cwt. for rough fat, which are the top current quotations. Grain. — Wheat : The demand continues good for prime quality milling, which could be readily placed at 4s 2d per bushel. Buyers show very little disposition to take secondary and inferior parcels, which it would be difficult to quit at our late quotations. Sales by anction have been made at from 3s 3d to 3s 6d for secondary quality, and from 2s 7d to 3s for fowl feed. Oats : The market shows a further slight advance, up to 2s 4d having been obtained at auction during the week for bright milling, and 2s Id to 2s 3d for medium and feed oats. Transactions privately have been very limited in extent. The demand continues quite equal to taking off all coming forward. Barley : Auction sales have ranged from Is 8d up to 2s 6d, the latter price being for good milling. Beyond this there is nothing to report.
