Me. Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Limited), reports for the week ending Bth September as follows : — ' Fat cattle were in fair supply at Burnside to-day, when 190 htad were yarded and sold at about last week's prices. Bullocks realised £5 7s 6d to £12 12s 6d, and cows £5 to £10 5s per head. We sold, on account of Messrs Smith and Dornwell, 40 head of bullocks from Messrs. Fleming and Hedley's celebrated Seadown herd, at from £10 to £12 12s 6d. Quotation for best beef, 265, and for medium, 20s per lOOlbs. Fat Sheep.— l7o7 head were penne 1. consisting of 1219 crossbred and 488 merinos. The supply being small, prices showed an advance of about Is 6d per head, the cross-breds fetching 9.s 6d to 16s 6d, and the merinos 9s 9d to 12s 3d per head. We disposed of 88 head cross-breds at 16s 6d. We quote 2j per lb. for prime mutton. Fat Lambs. | 30 head were sold at from 8s 9d to 13s 6d. Locally, there is not much doing. f We Reared a small catalogue on Monday, consisting of fellmongers' and odd station lots, at prices on average |d to $d per lb. better than those obtained at our previous sale on 9th August. Sheepskins. — We offered a fair catalogue on Monday, which met with good competition, and all lots were disposed of at a further advance. Butchers' cross-bred skins fetched from 3s 4d t<K6s 2d ; merinos, 2s 7d to 5s 4d ; station skins, np to 3s lOd ; and pelts, up to Is 4d. Hides.— The market is unchanged, the demand continuing good at our previous quotations, say— 2os each for butchers' green hides, and 3|d per lb. for wet salted. Tallow. We have placed several parcels at prices ruling at date of our last report, say— for well-rendered tallow, 22s 6d to 27s per cwt., and for rough fat 15s to 17s, at which all consignments coming to hand can find buyers. . t Grain. — The market for all descriptions remains very quiet, and buyers' immediate wants being fully supplied they evince no disposition to increase their stocks. tinue fully maintained. Quotations are generally about same as last week, say — Wheat : Prime milling, 4s (3d to 4s 9d ; medium, 3s 6d to 4s 3d. Oats : Prime milling, Is 8d ; good feed, Is 6d to Is 7d. Barley : Prime malting, 3s 6d, nominal ; ordinary to good, 2a 6d to Ss, nominal.
