Alderman Quinn has proved himself to be a great benefactor to the Iledemptorist Fathers of Mount St. Alphonsus in Limerick, to who&e cluuch he has given close upon £10,000, the cost of the tower, spire and peal of bells.

The Pope has summoned to Rome several German ecclesiastical dignitaries who have been subject to penalties for infractions of the May Laws. Tbe Pope desires to examine minutely into the special causes of the condemnation in each cite, with the view ot iindimr, if possible, some line of conduct calculated to avoid falling under the ban of the said laws in future.

A gigantic cannon has just been manufactured in the Aisenal of Turin. It is in cast iion, and is loaded by Lhc breech, which is stiengthened by tuple steel rings alter a system ahcady adopted for the cannons of twenty-two and twenty-tin c<> centimetres. Fiom the breech to the muzzle it measures ten metres. The diameter of the bore is forty-five centimetres, and tbe diameter of tbe breech, with its steel rings, one metre eight bundled and sixty-two centiiueties. This monster gun, with a charge of two hundred and fifty kilogrammes, throws a projectile of one thousand kilogrammes.
