SOUTH CANTERBURY.

(From a Correspondent.) Temtjka, September 7th, 1877. Meetings of the Catholics re Education Bill have been lately held in South Canterbury, at Timaru and Waimate, Temuka, and Geraldine. The resolutions passed at Dunedin and Wellington were adopted, and memorials, with numbers of signatures, protesting against the religious and compulsory clauses of the Bill, have been forwarded to the respective representatives of the above-mentioned districts. The petition to be presented before Parliament by Mr. Wakefield, the honourable member for Temuka and Geraldine, was accompanied with nearly 300 signatures. May these protests of fouth Canterbury, united to those of all the Catholics of New Zealand, contribute to make justice triumph over iniquity and tyranny.
