Between the 21st December last and 15th January, from the factory of WELLMADE RADIOS, LTD., 75 Dominion Road, a five-valve broadcast radio made of odd parts, chassis about 12 in. by 8 in. by 3 in., mounted on wooden box about 10 in. deep, cast aluminium drum, about 5 in. in diameter with “ Wellmade Ltd., Auckland ” on it on tuning condenser, 8 in. Rola speaker, probably R.C.A. valves ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 21st January last and 4th February, from the dwelling of DONALD WALTER MURRAY, 9 Collingwood Street, Ponsonby, a 14 in. screwdriver with wooden handle, American make, automatic push-pull type ; a 10 in. Yankee push-pull type drill with black composition handle; and a chromium-plated kerosene lamp, made in Germany, Petromax force burner, white Coleman mantle, wire handle ; total value, £8 ss. Auckland.— 2oth April last, from the dwelling of LOIS LETITIA WALLS, 584 Manukau Road, Epsom, a ladies’ gold octagon-shaped Unicorn wristlet watch, about size of a shilling, gold-coloured dial, black hands and Arabic numerals, brown silk wrist-band; a ladies’ gold round wristlet watch about size of a shilling, light-coloured dial, dark hands and Roman numerals, may have wrist-strap or wrist-band of bracelet type; a ladies’ dress ring, set with five opals, one of which is slightly chipped, in straight claw setting ; a gentlemen’s 18 ct. gold ring, size 0, set with a diamond in box setting ; an 18 ct. gold engagement ring set alternately with about nine rubies and pearls, and may also be set with two diamonds; an 18 ct. gold brooch, about I£in. by fin., tapering to point at each end, set with a ruby with about five pearls on each side of it; a gentlemen’s mounted umbrella, may have “ J.W.” on it a brown Morocco leather purse, about 4 in. by 3 in., about four compartments, snap-fastener at side; a ladies’ nigger-brown oiled-silk raincoat, repaired with white surgical plaster; a nickelplated o-cell electric torch; about 8 yd. of red and black flex ; about 6 yd. of brown flex ; 10s. in money ; and a basin plug, size 1 in. with chain 14in. long attached; total value, £56 19s. STEELE, LTD., 445 Karangahape Road, was broken into and the following stolen : A circular rip saw, 16 in. in diameter, If in. hole in centre reduced to 1 in., locking-pin hole \ in. in diameter near hole in centre ; a hollow-ground circular cross-cut saw, 14 in. in diameter, made by Spear and Jackson, hole 1 in. in diameter in centre ; two Westcfox alarm clocks, made in Canada, black metal cases, about 4 in. in diameter, cream-coloured dials, black hands and Arabic numerals; a brown leather suit-case, about 18 in. by 14 in., chromium-plated snap-lock below handle, lined with cream-coloured wallpaper, “ J.W.S.” in gold-coloured letters on lid; a carpenter’s apron with nail-pocket and patch on front; a 3 ft. rule, Rabone make; a nail-punch, size f in. with square head ; a round nail-punch, size in.; a carpenter’s pencil; and a ladies’ green leather handbag, about 12 in. by 9 in., with elastic sides, gilt fasteners, small purse inside ; total value, £l2 7s. 6d. Auckland. —On the 27th April last, the dwelling of STUART GORDON CLARK, 68 Lucerne Road, Remuera, was broken into and the following stolen : A three-piece blue-grey serge suit with fine dark stripes, austerity style, made by NeAvling and Wilson, 31 Cross Street, Newton, small burn-mark inside one cuff of trousers ; a gentlemen’s gold round Swiss wristlet watch, about size of a shilling (not in working order), white dial, black numerals, darkgreen hands, “ G.S.C. 15/3/22 ”on back; a gentlemen’s gold octagon-shaped Elgin wristlet watch (not in working order), white dial, dark hands and seconds-hand, grey leather wrist-strap; a silver oval engraved locket, about 2 in. by 1 in., red rose and green leaves in enamel on front, silver heavy chain about £ in. wide attached; and a blue mottled Watermans Ideal fountain-pen with gold nib ; total value, £29 18s. 6d. Auckland. —llth ultimo, from a room in the Kelvin Apartment House, 93 Hobson Street, the property of JOSEPH NEAL HOULIHAN, 77 Marne Street, Palmerston North, a double-breasted grey tweed overcoat with herringbone pattern, may be Minster make, S.M. size, quarter-lined with blue-grey silk the seams of which are piped, vent in back; a green gaberdine sports coat, S.M. size, stitching f in. wide around edge, lined with green satin ; a pair of grey sports trousers, S.M. size, fob pocket and pleats; and a brown leather belt with crocodile finish, chromium buckle ; total value, £2O ss. Identifiable.

Auckland. —llth or 12th ultimo, from a bomb-carrier at R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Whenuapai, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Air Department), four Ford V 8 16 in. wire wheels, painted grey, fitted with 600 by 16 Firestone tires, serial Nos. H 0253294, H770331T, H029281V, and H030571V, and tubes; total value, £43 12s. Tires identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), height about 5 ft. 10 in., airman, athletic build; wearing an R.N.Z.A.F. great-coat, or windbreaker jacket of American type, who was seen near the bomb-carrier about the time the offence was committed.

Auckland. —On the 14th ultimo, the dwelling of MARY LOUISE BELL, 88 Sarsfield Street, Herne Bay, was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s gold round Baume wristlet watch, ljin. in diameter, white dial, black hands (probably luminous), seconds-hand, black numerals, narrow leather wrist-strap; a nickel-plated bedroom clock, about 3|- in. in diameter, set in dark-oak case 6 in. by 8 in., white dial, black Roman numerals; a 9 ct. gold chased link bracelet, hasp-and-pin fastener; a large leather suit-case with “ F.E.8.” in gold-coloured letters and foreign labels on it, two nickel-plated fasteners, leather handle ; a pair of white Roslyn double blankets with black and white stripes ; a pair of white single blankets with blue stripes; a fawn and green plaid travelling rug with fringe on each end, darned in several places ; a 2 lb. box of Caleys chocolates ; and a grey double blanket; total value, £47 2s. Identifiable except chocolates.

Ngaruawahia. —About 18th March last, from a room in Cavanagh’s Buildings, the property of HARRY PELL, 125 Queen Street, Hastings, a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, model 62, No. 849559 ; value, £3 10s. Identifiable.

Rotorua. 26th or 27th April last, from a sitting-room in Thirwell House Hotel, the property of OLGA GOTTWALTZ, an eight-valve all-wave mantel model Ultimate radio, in oak-coloured cabinet about 24 in. by 24 in. with curved top, large round dial with New Zealand and Australian stations marked on it, spin-tuning, four control knobs ; value, £4O. Identifiable.

Manunui. —l6th March last, from the dwelling of RUTH ORR, The Terrace, a gold engagement ring, set with four diamonds in straight platinum setting, value £25 ; and a ladies’ gold octagon-shaped wristlet watch, Arabic numerals, “ R. Peterson ” scratched on inside back, main spring broken ; total value, £3O. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by William Frederick Orr, referred to in Police Gazette, 1945, page 352, and Photographs, 1937, . page 63, who was staying with complainant who is his sister-in-law. He left on above date, and it was subsequently discovered that the ring and watch had been stolen. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Wanganui. 24th ultimo, from the dwelling of ALLAN HECTOR BAZIL LOVERIDGE, 17 Mahoney Street, a 1944-45 driver’s license issued to complainant by the Wanganui City Council; a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, black tape around stock which is broken; a certificate of competency to drive a heavy motor-lorry issued to complainant some years ago by the Wanganui City Council ; and a small black purse containing £2 7s. 6d in money, a ten-cent piece, and three-gallon petrol coupons, Nos. 11 and 12 ; total value, £4 17s. 6d. Identifiable except money and coupons.

Wanganui.—24th ultimo, from the dwelling of FLORENCE ETHEL COOKSLEY, 11 Eastown Road, a suit-case (recovered), a gold-coloured metal heavy necklace, one link broken and used as fastener ; a pair of sun-tan silk stockings, size 34 in. ; and about £6 10s. in money; total value, about £7 11s. 4d. Necklace identifiable. The suitcase was recovered the same day in a section nearby.

Palmerston North. —11th ultimo, from a carriage on the Napier-Wellington express, the property of PATRICIA MARY FISHER, care of Bank of New Zealand, Napier, a dark musquash full-length fur coat with Peter Pan collar, broad shoulders, side pockets, sleeves lengthened about 1 in., fit small woman; value, £45. Identifiable. Complainant inadvertently left the coat in the carriage when leaving the train at Palmerston North.

Lower Hutt. —Between the 26th ultimo and Bth instant, the dwelling of FLORENCE DUTHIE, Golf Road, Heretaunga, was broken into and the following stolen : A Mullard cabinet radio, model X27A, serial No. 95775; a polished wooden canteen, about 18 in. by 12 in. by 12 in., with “ D ” on lid, containing twelve each of soup spoons, dessert spoons, teaspoons, gold-washed egg-spoons, small knives, anddrnner knives (all hare “11” on them), value' £IOO ; a gScKJail set comprised of a tray, shaker, and .six glasses], beaten' out of Mexican dollars, Iris design; fish knives and forks with ivory handles, in wooden case ; a gold-washed salad servingspoon and fork ; a Coleman double-burner oil stove, folding type ; a set (twenty-five pieces) of white Venetian point lace table-mats; two sets of green table-mats, one linen and the other organdi; a set of cream-coloured embroidered table-mats; some lace tablecloths ; some white damask table napkins; some single blankets, two blue, three pink, and some white ; a blue eiderdown quilt with embroidery on it; 3 lb. butter ; three bottles each of Kimberley sherry, Scotch whisky, Spanish sherry, and gin; a half-bottle each of brandy and rum ; two electric radiators, one bronze and the other blue, each with two cones ; an electric jug, quart size ; an electric

iron; a silver tea-set comprised of teapot, sugar-basin, and milk jug ; a silver kettle ; a silver coffee, jug ; a silver cakebasket ; a silver fruit-dish with’ two* small dishes to match ; .a silver meat- cover ; a silver rose-bowl; two electroplated meat-dishes " with “D ” thereon ; and a silver long deep entree-dish ; total value, about £3OO. Mostly identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Gordon f y Victor Joseph McKay, referred to in Police Gazette, 1045, ' page 15 and. Photographs, 1941, page 13, and following paragraph, who has been arrested by the Wellington police for a similar offence, but insufficient evidence has been obtained to charge him with this offence. On sth instant a motor-car was unlawfully removed from Imperial Terrace, lvilbirnie, and when recovered in Thorndon Quay, Wellington, the following day a letter and some receipts, &c., the property of complainant, were found in the car. /ue, ?£. ufy A/s. cV

Lower Hutt. —Between the 28th ultimo and 2nd instant, the dwelling of PERCY ROBERT HAZELWOOD, 13 Totara Crescent, was broken into and the following stolen : A movie camera ; a Kodascope ; and some film (all recovered); a light-yellow filter in cardboard box; a haze filter in cardboard box; a portrait attachment in cardboard box; a brown leather camera-case with shoulder-strap ; eighteen boxes containing 100 ft. of coloured and black and white exposed film ; four boxes containing 50 ft. of coloured and black and white exposed film ; a 400 ft. spool in can ; two cans each containing 400 ft. of exposed film; 200 ft. of exposed film in can ; 6 ft. of connecting cord; 25 ft. of extension cord; a fibre projector case ; a well-worn leather suit-case, 30 in. by 18 in. ; a brown fibre suit-case, medium size ; a grey-green canvas suit-case ; a white pullover, cable stitch ; four cotton shirts, 15 Jin. necks, fawn, green, and white; two or three sets of gentlemen’s flannelette pyjamas ; a pair of gentlemen’s black shoes, size 64 ; a suit with green stripes, size 5, made by Civil Service Tailors; a navy-blue suit, size 5, Lynx make ; some tics of various colours ; a boy’s grey pullover ; a pair of gentlemen’s leather slippers, size 7 ; a light-coloured sports shirt 15Jin. neck; a brown mottled Parker fountain-pen, gold nib, pocket clip; and a Weston Junior exposure-meter; total value, about £226. Identifiable. Gordon Victor Joseph McKay, referred to in Police Gazette, 1945, page 151, and Photographs, 1941, page 13, has been arrested by the Wellington police and charged with the offence, but the property described has not been recovered. His photograph lias been identified as that of a man who sold the recovered property at Auckland on 31st ultimo under the name “G. McKay.” (See preceding paragraph.)
