PERSONS WANTED

Auckland.—l3th October last, for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £3, the property of Patricia Vickerman, 27 Ashton Road, Mount Eden, Harold Cassidy (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, Maori, strong build, dark complexion and hair; wearing working clothes. The bicycle was stolen from a garage at above address, and on 2nd November last it was recovered from a pawnbroker in Victoria Street with whom it had been pledged for £2 on 14th October last by the man described. On 19th October last lie sold his pawn-ticket to the dealer for 7s. 6d. No warrant.

Auckland. — 14th February last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-one days in default of paying £24 9s. 6d. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his two children, Henry George Bennett, age forty-two, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer and seaman, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes, large mouth, woman’s face, flag, “ Doreen,” and anchor on left arm, knife-scar on back ; usually roughly dressed in grey clothes ; fond of liquor. Auckland. 26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Jessie Carter, Ernest Arthur Carter, age sixty-four, height 5 ft. 10 in., carpenter and war pensioner, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, grey hair going bald, blue eyes ; dressed in a Harris tweed coat, grey trousers, Donegal tweed overcoat or air-force- raincoat, and blue felt hat; well educated; frequents the Returned Services Association Building (Wellington Branch), and Working Men’s Club. Auckland.On or about the 10th September, 1943, on warrant for that he did aid a person (believed to be William Smith) in disposing of two 600 by 16 motor-car tirea, which"were not affixed to a vehicle as part of the normal equipment thereof, to Gerald Te Haara without the precedent consent of the Commissioner of Supply, Herbert James Marshall, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 753, and Photographs, 1940, page 36. Auckland. the 3rd and sth ultimo, for theft of a side-drum (recovered), value, £l7, the property of Norman Ernest Sharp, 10 Wright’s Road, Point Chevalier, C. Bradman (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, dark complexion, curly dark hair; probably wearing a dark suit (no hat). The drum was stolen from the Government House Forces Club, and on sth ultimo it was sold for £3 10s. to Charles Begg and Co., Queen Street, by the man described who signed a receipt “C. Bradman.” No warrant. '

On above date he entered complainant’s shop and requested cigarettes, and when complainant informed him that be did not have any he attempted to go behind the counter. Featherston. —7th February last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months in default of complying with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife and children, Samuel Sturgess, age fiftyfive, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes, wound-scars in hip and right leg, scar on left leg. While complainant was playing with other children at the Golf Course entrance, St. James Street, offender induced her to accompany him into some gorse nearby where he committed the offence. Methven. On or about 30th September last, on warrant for theft of a pair of trousers (recovered), value £4 45., the property of Lawrence Allan Watson, Alfred Timothy Hunt, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 407, and Photographs, page 3. On 9th ultimo he failed to appear at the Magistrates’ Court in answer to a summons. t f/skS Invercargill. About 10th January last, for theft of £5 in money, the property of James Martin, 116 Nelson Street, Phyllis Evelyn Martin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 866. While complainant was in hospital the money was stolen from his dwelling, and the girl, who is his daughter, stayed there on or about above date.
