Richards (name probably fictitious), age about forty-three, height about 5 ft. 6 in., believed to be a painter, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, high cheek-bones ; wearing a light-brown three-piece suit, shirt with stripes, and dark-coloured felt hat. He obtained £3 15s. in money from Arnold Roderick Watson, cycle-dealer, Devon Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO, No. 075000, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, and signed “ A. Richards,” which he tendered in payment of toys valued at £6 ss. He arranged to collect the toys the following day but did not do so. The chequeform was obtained from John Wood, signwriter, Currie Street. Offender is also to be interviewed for attempting to obtain a Majestic radio, value £l2 10s., from Lindsay Gordon Bowers, radio-dealer, 93 Devon Street, on the same day, by means of a valueless cheque for £l2 10s., No. 052466, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, in favour of L. G. Bowers, and signed “A. Richards.” He was given a receipt and stated that he would take delivery of the radio the following day. Richards obtained the cheque-form from Reginald Pearce, cycle-dealer, Fitzroy. He was engaged by complainant as a casual gardener, and was to commence work on 10th November last, but he failed to do so, and inquiries reveal that a second-hand dealer accompanied him to complainant’s shed and purchased the tools. Description : A garden cultivator ; a garden fork ; and a pair of hedge clippers (recovered); a rake; a scythe, Skelton make; and a 14 in. November lawn-mower with four blades, painted dark-green.
