INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND

Sydney (Australia). —Urgent inquiries are requested with a view to locating Harold Percival Stitt, alias Stephens, alias Robert Frank Hardy, alias John Arthur Conroy, alias John Smith (photographs above taken in 1935 v and 1942 respectively), who is believed to be in possession of valuable information regarding the murder of Mary Gwendoline Bakewell, whose mutilated body was found in a room at 277 Liverpool Street, East Sydney, on 10th ultimo (see New South Wales Police Gazette, 1944, pages 469 and 481). He is described as follows: Age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 9J- in., medium build and complexion, wavy brown hair, blue-grey eyes,

long thin face, pointed chin. This description is similar to that of a Man (name unknown) who was seen to enter the residence of the murdered woman at about 7.30 p.m. on 9th ultimo. He is also believed to be in possession of valuable information that would lead to the apprehension of the person responsible for the wounding of Frederick James Davey at Adelaide, South Australia, on 21st January, 1942, the murder of Clarence Keith Seckold at Adelaide on sth October, 1943, and the murder of Phillip John Beattie at Adelaide on 23rd January last. Should he be located in the Dominion an urgent communication is to be forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (C.R. 41/141.)
