Rotorua. — loth ultimo, on warrant for obtaining credit to the amount of £lO from Laurence Danaher, contractor, by fraud, J. O’Connell, age about fifty-eight, height about 5 ft. 8 in., bushman, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, fair hair going bald, blue eyes, wears glasses; dressed in a grey suit and overcoat. He agreed to work for complainant as a bushman, and was given a cheque for £lO to buy tools. He cashed the cheque but did not report at the job. Lower Hutt.— 26th July last, on warrant for that (1) On or about 15th November, 1943, at Orongorongo, did steal a bottle of Haig whisky, value £1 55., the property of Eric Riddiford. (2) On or about 15th March, 1944, at Orongorongo, did steal a pair of gum boots (recovered), value £1 10s., the property of Eric Riddiford, William David Pooley, alias Pulley, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 657, and Photographs, 1929, page 4. On 26th July last- he failed to appear at the Magistrates’ Court on above charges in answer to a summons.

He may be identical with Larry Kenneth Steele, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 230. Complainant and offender booked in at the Rutland Hotel on above date, but later the same day Steele claimed a refund for complainant’s accommodation and took possession of the suit-case and contents, which were subsequently recovered at Upper Hutt,
