Rotorua. — loth ultimo, on warrant for obtaining credit to the amount of £lO from Laurence Danaher, contractor, by fraud, J. O’Connell, age about fifty-eight, height about 5 ft. 8 in., bushman, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, fair hair going bald, blue eyes, wears glasses; dressed in a grey suit and overcoat. He agreed to work for complainant as a bushman, and was given a cheque for £lO to buy tools. He cashed the cheque but did not report at the job. He is believed to be identical with John Louis Connell, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 681, and Photographs, 1934, page 60. A similar charge is pending. AnwittjU r -&//ZL /kb.

Lower Hutt.— 26th July last, on warrant for that (1) On or about 15th November, 1943, at Orongorongo, did steal a bottle of Haig whisky, value £1 55., the property of Eric Riddiford. (2) On or about 15th March, 1944, at Orongorongo, did steal a pair of gum boots (recovered), value £1 10s., the property of Eric Riddiford, William David Pooley, alias Pulley, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 657, and Photographs, 1929, page 4. On 26th July last- he failed to appear at the Magistrates’ Court on above charges in answer to a summons.

J ohnsonville.—For escaping from Porirua Mental Hospital fi / on 9th ultimo— Howard Lee De Grut, referred to in Polic e/fai&U Gazette, 1944, page 716, and - Photographs, 1937, page 46; iSiioL wearing a grey coat, dark trousers (stolen from the dwelling l ,U r of Pauline Constance Ellen Hook), and institution shirt (no hat). Wellington. —22nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Gisborne Prison for one month in default of complying with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Thomas Shaw Hamilton, age sixty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., bushman, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes; ship in wreath and clasped hands on left forearm. Wellington. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a suit-case and contents (recovered), value £6 145., and six packets of Camel cigarettes, value 65., the property of Neil Graham Gardiner, seaman on the ship “ Pamir,” Steele, age about twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 8 in., seaman, native of Canada or America, medium build ; wearing navy-blue trousers, dark jersey, and fawn jacket with zip-fastener. He may be identical with Larry Kenneth Steele, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 230. Complainant and offender booked in at the Rutland Hotel on above date, but later the same day Steele claimed a refund for complainant’s accommodation and took possession of the suit-case and contents, which were subsequently recovered at Upper Hutt,

Christchurch. 2Bth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to I Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying . £SO 10s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Stephen John McGilligan, age fifty-two, height 5 ft. 10 in., motor-driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair going bald, hazel eyes.
