Christchurch. —Between the 9th and 11th March last, for theft of a clothes-basket and parts of a motor-car (recovered), value £5, the property of Avril Madeline Elwood, 317 Ferry Road, James William Burton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1944, page 93, and Photographs, 1938, page 14. About 3rd March last he called on complainant and informed her that he desired to buy some parts of her motor-car which was parked on her section, but he was told to call again. Subsequently, in company with another man whom he informed that he had purchased the car for £2, he removed some parts from the car and later removed other parts and carried them in the clothes-basket to a garage at 69 Bordesley Street, from where they were recovered. He left this Dominion as a member of the crew of the ship “ William Beaumont ”on 9th May last. No warrant.
