Devonport. —l7th or 18th March last, from premises at Shoal Bay, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Public Works Department), an iron concrete conveyor with iron handles, 36 in. long, 24 in. deep, fitted with wire wheels of Model A Ford type and 450 by 21 tires; value £2O. Identifiable.

Auckland. —l4th or 15th January last, from the dwelling of LESLEY JOY CHAPMAN, 1 Tui Street, an Air Force pay warrant for £6 2s. 6d. (recovered) ; a ladies’ gold Swiss wristlet watch, black hands and Arabic numerals, black leather wrist-strap about $ in. wide ; a purse of black crinkled leather, about 12 in. by 8 in., three pleats in front, three compartments with zip-fastener on centre one, black rayon lining; two small leather purses, one black and the other blue; and £1 4s. in money total value, £ls 6s. 6d. Identifiable except money. On 19th January last the pay warrant, to which complainant’s signature had been forged., was cashed at the Bank of New Zealand, Newton, by some person unknown.

Auckland.— Between the 25th February last and 7th March, from a room in Eglington Apartment House, Hobson Street, the property of RONALD JOHN McGILL, Pokeno, a gold large engagement ring, set with three diamonds, contained in a yellow and white case with black lines, 2 in. by 2 in. by 1£ in. ; value, £lB. Identifiable.

Auckland. About 28th, March last, the property of Lieutenant CHARLES F. JACOBS, U.S.A. Naval Operating Base, a No. 2 Zeiss Contact camera with wide angle f. 2.8 lens about 3 in. in diameter, takes 35 mm. film, contained in leather case; value, £IOO. Identifiable. The camera was stolen from complainant while he was on duty about tho city.

Auckland. Between the 7th and 12th February last, from a room in the Peoples Palace, Queen Street, the property of PERCY JOSEPH DOUGLAS, a pair of black binoculars, 6 in. long with “ J. Wiseman ” on rim ; value, £lO. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Youth (name unknown), age seventeen, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, fair complexion and hair, smart appearance, plausible. Ho shared the room with complainant, and after he had left it was discovered that the binoculars had been stolen.

Auckland. — 24th December, 1939, the property of ARTHUR CHARLES DARWIN COOKE, 46 Ranui Road, Remuera, a -45 calibre six-chambered Webley revolver, No. 3160 ; value, £2 10s. Identifiable. Childs ” on tag at neck; a navy-blue suit with white stripes, about size 5, may have “ Hugh Wright, Ltd.” on tag at neck ; a navy-blue fine serge suit coat, about size 3, “ Cambridge ” on inside; a blue-green sports coat with patch pockets, three buttons on front; a navy-blue worsted suit coat with white dotted stripes, size 5, “ George Court, Ltd.” on inside, small hole in lining near breast pocket; and a pair of green worsted sports trousers with light stripes about 1 in. apart, about size 5, tunnel-loops for belt; total value, £45 Bs. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by Charles William Samms, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 200, and when located he is to be interviewed.

Auckland. — Ist ultimo, from a bathroom in the Salvation Army Red Shield Hostel, Lome Street, the property of EDWIN GEORGE WHYTE, seaman on H.M.N.Z.S. “ Philomel,” a gentlemen’s nickel-plated oblong Pierce wristlet watch with curved sides, luminous hands, and Arabic numerals, “ Aug./42.T.” scratched on back, navy-blue wrist-strap; value, £5. Identifiable.

Between the Bth and 11th ultimo, from a workshop in Kapanga Road, the property of JOHN FREDERICK HANSEN, five Multinex chrome vanadium ringspanners, sizes \ in. to 1 in.; four Armstrong chrome vanadium set spanners, sizes § in. to 1 in. ; an 18 in. Stilson wrench ; a 14in. Stilson wrench with “ H.H.” near adjusting screw; a pair of Crescent pliers; a pair of Starrett spring outside calipers, marked “ J.H.”; a Yankee push-pull wood-drill, nickel finish, “ L.R.” punched in handle ; and a six-volt thirteen- motor-car battery; total value, £ls 6s. Thames. — loth or 11th March last, from a motor- truck at the side of the dwelling of GERALD JAMES DOHERTY, 17 Mary Street, a -22 calibre single-shot Winchester rifle, bolt action, No. 46644, model 67 ; and a packet of -22 calibre Remington ammunition; total value, £3 2s. 6d. Rifle identifiable.

Te Aroha.—26th or 27th December last, from a motor-car in the garage of THOMAS JAMES HICKEY, WairongomaiMaungakawa Road, Waihou, a 14 h.p. Vauxhall motor-car maroon wheel of artillery type, fitted with a 550 by 16 Goodrich retread tire, serial No. 33495551, and tube; total value, £9 2s. 6d. Identifiable.

Te Aroha. — 11th or 12th January last, from an implementshed on the farm of ROBERT HAROLD McCABE, Ngutumunga Road, Waihou, a dark-brown pigskin English hunting saddle with two new flaps and stirrup-leathers, nickel irons, right girth strap broken, grey-brown lining ; a light-brown pigskin English saddle with grey-brown lining, small nickel irons, tree broken, cotton girth; and a pointer bitch with black and white markings, age seven weeks; total value, £2B. Identifiable. Between the 25th December last and 16th March a number of similar thefts were committed in the district, and in some instances a motor-car was seen or heard near the various sheds from which tools, &c., were stolen.

Hamilton. Between the 16th and 29th March last, from the dwelling of HARRIET PORTER PAWSON, 414 Victoria Street, an 18 ct. gold small wedding ring about £ in. wide an 18 ct. gold heavy dress ring, inset with a diamond about size of a small pea; value £4O; an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, set with a large diamond surrounded by a cluster of five smaller diamonds; and an 18 ct. gold dress ring with two rubies and two diamonds set alternately in straight setting ; total value, £7O. Identifiable.

Tauranga. —On the 4th ultimo, the warehouse of the Junction Service Station was broken into and the following tires, the property of CYRIL WESTBY DAVOREN, stolen : A 525 by 16 Goodyear retread, serial No. R. 34703/772N; a 525 by 16 Dunlop retread, serial No. 2692800. F.; a 525 by 16 Dunlop retread, serial No. 378359N.1; and a 400 by 17 Avon ; total value, £l2 9s. Identifiable. Hastings. Between the 13th February last and 9th March, from the premises of the Air Training Corps, Heretaunga Street, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Air Department), a -300 calibre Eddystone rifle with red band painted around barrel; and a magazineclip for a Sten sub-machine gun; total value, £lO 10s. Identification doubtful.

Palmerston North. —Between the 14th March last and 12th ultimo, from a shed in the Showgrounds Camp, tho property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), the following motor tires : A 600 by 16; a 600 by 16 and tube fitted to steel wheel (probably Ford V 8), painted green; a 750 by 20 Firestone and tube fitted to pressed-steel Ford V 8 truck wheel, painted Army green ; and two 700 by 20 (probably Firestone) with green paint splashed on sides of each ; total value, £l4O. Identification doubtful.

Pahtatua. Between the 20th and 26th February last, from the dwelling of ANNIE RUBEINA HESLOP, Sedcole Street, a ladies’ gold octagon-shaped wristlet watch, about 1 in. wide, round back with “ Beenie, 21st Birthday, 16/1/26 ” on it; and £3 10s. in money; total value, £l4. Watch identifiable.

Levin. —Between the Ist July, 1941, and 18th March last, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), • a -303 calibre Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle, barrel No. P.B. 2593, bolt No. 25277; a -303 calibre B.S.A. Lee-Enfield Magazine rifle, No. 4016, body and barrel No. B.P. 2019, bolt No. 2729 ; and a -303 calibre B.S.A. Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle, No. 9486, body No. 4373, barrel No. P.B. 4373, bolt No. 7596; total value, about £24. Identifiable. The rifles were on issue to the local Home Guard, and may have been lost during manoeuvres.

Masterton. Between the 24th January last and 4th February, from the Nurses’ Home, Public Hospital, the property of THORA WINIFRED SCADDEN, a ladies’ silver round wristlet watch, gold-coloured octagon-shaped dial, Arabic numerals, “ D.W.” or “ D. Wright ” scratched on inside back case, repair No. 216/43G., leather wrist-strap; and a cameo ring with pink representation of head on it, small cracks inside band ; total value, £7 ss. Paekakariki. — Between the 19th and 21st February last, from the boiler-house of the WINDSOR MANUFACTURING CO., Steyne Avenue, Plimmerton, a J h.p. single-phase splitphase electric A.C. motor, made by Crompton and Parkinson, England, painted black, No. S.S. 55-A. 48 on base, with 2|in. “A ” Section V-pulley attached, | in. spindle ; value, £6 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington. 4th March last, from a room in the Women’s Hostel, 216 Tho Terrace, the property of PATRICIA MILLS DOBSON and another, a ladies’ small silver Swiss wristlet watch, “ K. 0. Miller, Dannevirke ” on dial, black ribbon wrist-band; a gold medal in shape of shield with scroll on top, “ South School, 1936 ” on front, “P. Dobson ” on back, gold fine chain attached ; a nickel-plated hexagonshaped two-cell torch with file-marks around head ; a ladies’ ring, originally set with four moonstones in straight setting, but one end stone now missing ; a Venetian crystal necklace with three yellow oblong stones ; a string of blue beads on gold-coloured chain ; a gold flat oblong baby-brooch with scroll work on edge, “ Patricia ”on it; a green brooch in shape of small butterfly on silver twig ; and £2 13s. in money ; total value, £l6 18s. Wellington. 6th or 7th March last, from the shop of ARTHUR CLEMENTS, furrier, 18 Manners Street, a darkbrown rabbit-skin fur coat, three fur buttons, small pointed collar, puff shoulders, fully lined with brown satin ; a mediumbrown rabbit-skin fur coat, may have one fur and two bone buttons, probably no collar, puff shoulders, fully lined with brown satin; a rabbit-skin fur cape with Peter Pan collar, elastic arm-bands, two hooks and buckle at neck, brownsatin lining with pocket at edge ; and a grey clipped rabbitskin Coney fur cape, dark clip at neck, one hook, lined with brown crepe ; total value, £36. Identification doubtful.

Wellington. 9th March last, from the person of ELEANOR VERA WYNDHAM, 27 Breaker Bay Seatoun, a gold American graduation-ring, set with a large square reddish-coloured stone across which is a small gold bar, “ al ” being last two letters of “ Centennial ” on it, also “G” or “C”, Treasure Craft stamped and “ M.R.8.” scratched on inside of band; value, £lO. Identifiable. While complainant was in a restaurant the ring was removed from her finger by ; the Man described below, who refused to return it: Age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., soldier, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion and hair, flat nose; wearing battledress of a private and a Medical Corps pugaree.
