Auckland.— July last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife and two children, Charles Walsh, alias George Whitmore, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 739, and Photographs, 1926, page 70. Arrears to 28th April last, £179 10s.

Stratford.— 2Bth July last, on two warrants of commitment to New Plymouth Prison for two months on each in default of paying £SO 13s. 6d. arrears on maintenance orders for the support of his wife and children, Leonard Copestake, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 673. Palmerston North. 29th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £258 10s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his three children, Gilbert Fitt, age -three, height 5 ft. 10 in., motor-trimmer, slight build. Palmerston North. —3lst July last, for indecently assaulting Doreen Estelle Thorpe, age ten, in Fitzroy Park, Terrace End, Man (name unknown), height about 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, fresh complexion, black hair; wearing a navyblue suit with stripes, blue overcoat with red and yellow in it, and blue-grey felt hat. He told the complainant he was a policeman, and that he was looking for stolen clothing. He induced her to go in the bushes with him where he indecently assaulted her. No warrant.

Wellington. 2oth July last, on summons for acting as an agent for the purchase of intoxicating liquor for a member of an Armed Force, James McGregor, age about fifty, carpenter, slight build, sallow complexion. . . tiootaaed,

. Wellington. 22nd July last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for ten days in default of paying £5 balance of fine and costs for acting as an agent for the purchase of intoxicating liquor for a member of an Armed Force, John Kerins, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 55.

Wellington. —About 21st August last, on warrant for obtaining £6 in money from Arthur Victor Johnson, 69 Martin Square, by falsely representing that he had obtained a position for him on a Norwegian ship and required the £6 to pay to a man at the Norwegian Shipping Office, Harold William Wakenell, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 5J in., labourer, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, anchor, dagger, scroll, and “ Death Before Dishonour ” on right arm, dagger and dragon’s head on left arm. He may be identical with a man of the same name referred to in Victoria Police Gazette, 1938, page 677. He left the Dominion as a passenger to Melbourne (Victoria) on the ship “ Sydney Star ” on 30th August last.

Wellington. —3oth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for four days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for casting offensive matter, William Henry Homes, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 616, and Photographs, 1937, page 61.

Christchurch. 2oth August last, for assaulting s Noala Bench, 17 Dudley Street, Addington, Man (name unknown), age about nineteen, height about 5 ft. 9 in., strong build, dark hair. At about 8.45 p.m. on above date, he knocked complainant from her bicycle at the intersection of Hagley Avenue and St. Asaph Street, and then caught hold of her by the shoulders and threw her violently to the road, striking her head and causing severe injuries. He was accompanied by a shorter man, who was wearing a navy-blue overcoat, light-coloured suit (no hat.) Complaints of similar offences have been received in some of which the youth concerned was riding a bicycle. No warrant.

Timaru. — August last, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for three months in default of paying £2O 15s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife and two children, Andrew Smith, age forty, height 5 ft. in., cellarman, native of New Zealand, medium build, ruddy complexion, dark hair turning grey, hazel eyes; usually wears a dark suit. / J
