THE ELECTORAL EMERGENCY REGULATIONS 1943 C. L. N. NEWALL, Governor-General ORDER IN COUNCIL At the Government House at Wellington, this 24th day of July, 1943 Present: His Excellency the Governor-General in Council Pursuant to the Emergency Regulations Act, 1939, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby make the following regulations.

REGULATIONS 1. (1) These regulations may be cited as the Electoral Emergency Regulations 1943. (2) The Electoral Emergency Regulations 1941* are hereby revoked. 2. For the purposes of the general interpretation thereof these regulations shall be deemed to be made under the Electoral Act, 19271 (hereinafter referred to as the Act), and, unless the context otherwise requires, expressions used in these regulations have the same meanings as in the Act. 3. A person who belongs to either of the following classes shall not be deemed to be disqualified from being registered or from continuing to be registered as an elector of the district in which is situated his or her usual place of residence by reason of absence therefrom unless he or she becomes registered in another district, namely: (a) Persons employed in any positions pursuant to directions given to them under the Industrial Manpower Emergency Regulations 1942± or in any positions ,to which they have been transferred under those regulations: * Statutory Regulations 1941, Serial number 1941/225, page 692 t See Reprint of Statutes, Vol. VI, page 469. j Statutory Regulations 1942, Serial number 1942/296, page 714. (b) Wives of members of the Forces within the meaning of the Electoral Amendment Act, 1940. 4. (1) A person who belongs to either ,of the following classes shall not be entitled to be registered as an elector or to vote under the Act, namely: (a) Persons who have been committed to defaulters’ detention under Regulation 44a of the National Service Emergency Regulations 1940 . (as inserted by Regulation 8 of the National Service Emergency Regulations 1940, Amendment No. 5) * and have not been discharged therefrom: , (b) Persons who have been taken into custody under the Aliens Emergency Regulations 1940 f and have not been released therefrom. (2) The name of every person disqualified as aforesaid shall be erased from every electoral roll. C. A.
