' f • Auckland. — 16th or 17th April last, for theft of a clothes- | wringer (recovered), value £B, the property of Elizabeth | Hammerton, 10 Symonds Street, James Robert McKinley V Erskine, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 4747 and Photographs, 1933, page 86. He is believed to have been associated in the commission of this offence with Basil George Knox, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 479, 'and Photographs, 1937, page 13, who has been interviewed. The wringer was recovered from a second-hand dealer on 20th April last. No warrant. y #

Auckland. 2oth May last, on warrant for failing to report for service with the Armed Forces when notified so to do, Horace William Hoffmann, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 91 in., butcher, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue

Auckland. llth May last, for false pretences, Woman (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 9 in., native of New Zealand, slight build, artificial complexion, auburn hair; dressed in a black and fawn check coat of costume type, light-fawn skirt, emerald-green blouse in the centre of which was a diamante brooch in form of four coloured flags, and a black felt hat with emerald-green feather on right side; pleasant appearance. Sometimes she was accompanied by a girl, age about three and a half. On above date she obtained goods, value £5 13s. 6d., from George Court and Sons, Ltd., by falsely representing that she was Mrs. A. Laurie, 27 Fernglen Road, St. Heliers Bay, who had an account with complainant firm, and she signed a docket for the goods A. Laurie.” On the 12th, 13th, and 17th May she obtained goods, value £26 18s., £3 11s. ad., and £3 13s. 6d., respectively from the same firm by similar representations, but on the latter occasion she left the goods in the shop and disappeared when requested to call at the firm’s office. No warrant.

Hawera. —17th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Winnie Rio Normanby, and four children, Jack Rio, age twenty-eight (looks older), height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, Maori, thin build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, brown eyes, flat nose ; wearing a dark coat, grey sports trousers, brown pullover, and tan shoes ; slightly lame ; fond of drink. Foxton. —For escaping from Wliitanui Military Defaulters’ Camp on the 9th ultimo, Thomas Patrick Walsh" age twentythree, height 5 ft. 6 in., journalist, native of New Zealand, good build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; wearing a brown sports coat, blue trousers, grey overcoat, green tie with stripes, and black shoes. Christchurch.— On warrant— Albert Henry Wheeler, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 519. (2) Myra Joyce Wheeler, age twenty-three, native of New Zealand?" STie" is the wife of Albert Henry Wheeler. They are to be charged jointly as follows : On the 12th day of April, 1943, at Christchurch, having the custody of a male child under the age of fourteen years, to wit, Albert Charles Wheeler, born on the 25th day of February, 1942, did abandon such child in a manner likely to cause such child unnecessary suffering.

Christchurch.— 2nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for six weeks in default of paying £23 6s. arrears on a maintenance order for tho support of his child, Harry Thompson, ago forty-three, height 5 ft. 3J in., stable hand and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, left thumb and two fingers missing. He may be released on payment of £9 16s. (See Police Gazette, 1932, page 528.)

Christchurch. —7th April last, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for three months in default of paying £2l 10s. arrears on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Owen Derrick, age fifty-three, ship’s fireman. He may be released on payment of £l7 10s. (See Police Gazette, 1935, page 116.)

Christchurch. That he he located and interviewed with * a view to a prosecution for failing to pay his train-fare between Christchurch and Ashburton on Bth April last, W. R.
