Henderson. — or 20th January last, from a cow-shed on a farm in Rathgar Road, the property of EDWARD ELLIS EDWARDS, 10 Kelmarna Avenue, Herne Bay, a •22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, No. 36428 A., model 62 ; value, £B. Identifiable, ,

Devonport. Between the 9th and 11th ultimo, from a workshop at the Naval Depot, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Navy Department), a -455 calibre six-chambered Webley service revolver, Mk. VI, No. 291958 ; value, £4 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. — On the 26th December last, the dwelling of NORMAN CUNNINGHAM, 15 Lonsdale Road, Ellerslie, was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ fawngrey full-length musquash fur J coat with gold-coloured tips, fawn-grey figured silk lining, revere collar, three large fur buttons, repaired at bottom, skins at back in shape of inverted V, value, £45; a gentlemen’s gold or rolled-gold heavy open-face pocket watch with lever on side which operates chimes, black numerals; a gentlemen’s silver hunting combination stop-watch with small oval button near winder which operates split-second hand ; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting dress watch with scroll work on edge ; a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting dress watch with chased case, Roman numerals ; a metal open-face splitsecond stop watch, one hand gold and the other black, “ Presented to N. Cunningham, trainer of Musketoon, winner of Higgie Handicap, Wanganui Jockey Club ” and a date on inside back case, “ N.C.” on outside back case ; a silver combination propelling pencil and cigarette-lighter, about 7 in. long, pocket clip attached ; a gold full-length fetter and oval chain, clip on one end and ring on other end, greenstone tiki on centre; a gentlemen’s gold ring with ruby in claw setting ; a ladies’ gold ring, set with three sapphires and about eight small diamonds in oblong setting ; a number of coins, consisting of farthings, half-pennies, pennies, and other old English coins ; a 9 ct. or 18 ct. gold heavy watch-chain, about 18 in. long, links of slightly twisted cable design; a light gold fetter and oval watch-chain, about 18 in. long ; and four shirts with collars attached, size 4, one pale grey, one blue with stripes, and one brown with red stripes ; total value, £lB6 7s. 9d. Identifiable except money and shirts.

Auckland. —On the 23rd January last, the warehouses of FOOTE BROS, and D. STERN (FURS), LTD., Elliott Buildings, were broken into and the following stolen : Two brown fibrecane suit-cases, 22 in. by 8| in. by 13 in., leather handles, corners bound, “2 ” or “3 ” on label inside ; a light-yellow natural fitch coat with black markings, 41 in long, small collar, numerous tucks in sleeves (no lining) ; a flank musquash fur coat with fawn lining, small collar; a brown musquash fur coat with 3 in. turned underneath lining at bottom ; a light-brown narrow minx stole in two pieces with two heads joined at back, small tails, feet, and claws, each piece about 24 in. long, brown rucked lining ; a dark-brown northern skunk tie of four skins, 48 in. long, moth in it; a grey opossum jacket with satin lining to match, 19 in. long ; and a musquash rabbit coat with stripes about 2 in. wide, small collar, fastens with hooks and eyes, about 40 in. long, light-brown lining ; total value, £205. Identifiable.

Auckland.2Bth January last, from the dwelling of JESSIE DOREEN HARVEY, 32 Bradford Street, Parnell, a gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong wristlet watch, unbreakable glass with scratches on it, black hands and Arabic numerals, “J. & S.” and “ Swiss Made ” on dial, black leather wrist-band with spot of green paint on it; and a chromium-plated cigarette-case, about 31 in. square with milled convex surface, “ E.J.H.” on top right corner, small dent in back near bottom; total value, £5. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., strong build; wearing a medium-grey sports coat, dark-grey trousers, and fawn felt hat. He was seen at the rear door shortly after complainant left the house.

Auckland. —29th January last, from a room in the Royal Hotel, Victoria Street, the property of NORRIE SYME, Hawera, a brown leather suit-case, 24 in. by 18 in. by 9 in., two straps around it, corners reinforced with leather, “ R. A. Syme ”in white paint on outside lid; a grey worsted suit with thin red and thin light-coloured stripes ; a gentlemen’s navy-blue Rayon silk dressing-gown with lighter-coloured stripes about 1 in. apart, navy-blue and white girdle; a pair of gentlemen’s tan Bostock shoes, size 6£ ; a coloured Woodrow felt hat, size 6J; a set of gentlemen’s white silk heavy pyjamas with blue stripes, M size; a set of gentlemen’s green vyella pyjamas with deeper green stripes, M size ; eight cream-coloured fuji silk shirts, size 3, with collars to match some of which may have “ A. H. Shaw, Hawera ” on them ; four Canterbury locknit sleeveless singlets ; four pairs of white locknit shorts with elastic tops, M size ; six tics of silk, poplin, and cashmere, Parisian and Curtis makes ; eight pairs of fine woollen socks of various colours, size 10| ; fifteen white linen handkerchiefs, some have “ N.S.” in white silk on them ; an old nickel Gillette razor in leather case; two pairs of flesh-coloured silk stockings, size 94; eight white Van Heusen collars, size 15, “N. Syme ” on inside; and a quart bottle of White Horse whisky; total value, £57 6s. 4d. Mostly identifiable.

Auckland. —2lst January last, from the dwelling of VIOLET FREW, 143 Grafton Road, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold octagonal Roamer wristlet watch, “ Z. 1.5.” on back, Arabic numerals, white dial, M. 1554 scratched on inside case, black moire wrist-band (half missing) with three gold oblong fittings ; value, £B. Auckland.— loth ultimo, from the person of GEORGE ANSELM TALUS, machinist’s mate on the ship “ Solace,” a brown kangaroo-skin wallet, containing complainant’s identification card; a United States of America Bureau of Mines first-aid certificate; a Minnesota motor-driver’s license; a Veteran of Foreign Wars membership card (documents bear complainant’s name); two membership cards for Masonic Lodge; a United States of America Navy card for crossing the Equator; three twenty dollar bills ; and about three one dollar bills; total value, £2l 4s. Id. Documents bearing complainant’s name are identifiable. The offence was committed by a Man, age about twentyfive, height about 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, dark complexion and hair; wearing a dark coat, trousers, and sweater (no hat). Early in the morning on the above date, while in Victoria Street West, he grabbed the complainant’s wallet from his hand, as he was about to be paid for a bottle of whisky, and ran away. He was accompanied by two women.

Hamilton. — 3rd or 4th May last, from a train between Waiouru and Frankton Junction, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a -303 calibre Service rifle, serial No. C. 1418, unit No. 49 ; and one Army knapsack ; total value, £lO 14s. Rifle identifiable.

Wairoa. —l7th January last, from a dwelling in Hospital Road, the property of MARY KELLY, New Wairoa Hotel, a ladies’ rolled-gold round wristlet watch, Arabic numerals, “ M.K.” on back, gold expanding wrist-band; and three £5 notes ; total value, £25. Watch identifiable.

Wairoa. — or about the 23rd January last, the dwelling of LAURA MATILDA LOMBA, school-mistress, Waihua, was broken into and the following stolen : A blue leather suit-case, 15 in. by 15 in. by 8 in., lined with blue pattern silk a pig-skin dress-case, about 18 in. by 8 in. by 8 in., folding type with zip-fastener round three sides; a hand mirror with blue back and nickel handle ; an amber-coloured necklace of octagonal-shaped beads; an amber-coloured necklace with nickel inset; a white carved ivory bracelet with “ L.L.” on inside ; a beach-towel with red and orange coloured stripes ; a pale-pink bath-towel; a gingham check breakfast-cloth ; a white supper-cloth, blue stitching in hem, cross-stitch designs in corners ; a tea-towel; a suede-covered shopping-list; a three-quarter size cream-coloured blanket with wide pink border and blue and pink stripes ; a brown, yellow, and fawn check raincoat, “ Braemar ” on tag, Peter Pan collar, Raglan sleeves, rubber lined ; a small tin of Nugget boot-polish ; a boot-brush ; two silver tablespoons ; and four dessert-knives, branded “ Firth-Brearly Stainless ” ; total value, £l7 7s. Identifiable excepting cutlery.

Wanganui. August, 1940, and 21st February, 1942, from the dwelling of Mrs. Rusden, Karaka Street, Castlecliff, the property of EDWARD SUTHERLAND MENZIES, Waiouru Military Camp, a -32 calibre Mauser automatic pistol, No. 157996, not in working order, in leather holster; and a certificate of registration, No. 12274, issued at Ohakune ; value, £2. Identifiable.

Havelock. 23rd ultimo, from the dwelling of STEWART TOSSWELL, farmer, Okuro Point, Nelson, a gold ring with a claw-set diamond in centre and a platinum-sot diamond on each side of it; and £2 10s. in money ; total value, £l3 10s. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by William Towler, referred to in Police Gazette, 1943, page 159. He was employed by complainant but disappeared from his employment on above date, and later the same day it was discovered that the ring and money had been stolen. Between the 26th January last and 26th ultimo, from 26th Composite Anti-aircraft Regiment, Wharf Street, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), four -303 Service rifles, pattern 1914 (P. 14), serial number on stock and maker’s number on breech-bolt and nose-cap respectively as follows: Serial No. 5949, maker’s No. 226537; serial No. 5950, maker’s No. 491648; serial No. 5981, maker’s No. 105014; serial No. 5984, maker’s No. 633178; nine hundred and twentytwo rounds of -303 ammunition, each branded “ C.A.C. Mk. VII-39 ” ; and a pair of black heavy military binoculars, prismatic type, serial No. 29940, contained in leather case, branded on lid “ 8.H.G., Ltd., Binoculars Prismatic No. 5, Case Mk. I”; total value, £127 12s. Identifiable except ammunition.
