PROPERTY STOLEN.

Whangarei. —l3th instant, from the shop of JAMES PARKINSON, jeweller, Cameron Street, a black display pad, 12 in. by 8 in., containing five 18 ct. gold engagement rings, each believed to be set with a cluster of about eight diamonds in platinum setting, price mark on bands ; an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, set with about five diamonds and five sapphires in two rows in box setting, price mark (probably £2O) on it; an 18 ct. gold enagement ring, set with four diamonds in straight claw setting, price mark (probably £2O) on it; an 18 ct. gold enagement ring, set with an emerald between two diamonds in straight claw setting, price mark, £l6 10s. on it; an 18 ct. gold enagement ring, set with a large diamond in square platinum setting with smaller diamond on each side of it, price mark (probably £2O) on it; and fourteen 18 ct. gold engagement rings, each set with from one to three diamonds in platinum and claw settings, price mark on each ; total value, £293 I,os. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about thirty-eight, height about 5 ft. 10 in.', soldier, tanned complexion; wearing uniform of a private, who was seen leaving the shop during complainant’s temporary absence. aj j . „ . . r .

HOWARD AND SONS, cabinetmakers, 14-16 St. James Square, was broken into, the safe opened by means of explosives, and 7s. in money stolen; and the countinghouse of ERIC OXEL JOHNSON, chairmaker in the. same building where the safe was also opened by means of explosives, but the offender or offenders did not steal anything.

Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A black velvet display pad for twelve rings, 7 in. by 4 in. ;- an 18 ct. gold ring with a diamond weighing nearly a J ct. in a platinum box setting; an 18 ct. gold ring with a cluster of seven diamonds in a platinum box setting; an 18 ct. gold ring with a cluster of nine diamonds in a platinum box. setting; an 18 ct. gold ring with three diamonds in a straight platinum claw setting; an 18 ct. gold ring with two diamonds in a cross-over platinum claw setting, each diamond .weighs -/g- ct.; two 18 ct. gold rings, each with a diamond weighing about J ct., in a platinum claw setting; an 18 ct. gold ring, three diamonds in a row in an octagon-shaped platinum ring box setting ; and an 18 ct. gold ring with two diamonds in a straight platinum setting, each diamond weighs ct.; total value, £l5O 2s. • Identifiable. *tae/P<J n so/ Patea. Palmerston North. — June last, the property of ELSIE FLORENCE NATHAN, 291 College Street, a brooch, about LI in. long and f in. wide, consisting of a thick opal with rounded corners in gold setting, and four small diamonds set in each end, : upper portion of setting platinum-washed, pin on back with patent fastener ; .value, £9O. , Palmerston North. —22nd ultimo, from the dwelling of HELEN GREEN, Aorangi, a gold ring, set with five sapphires in square setting; a gold ring, set with three sapphires, two of which are of darker shade than the other, believed claw setting; a gold ring with winkle-shell in claw, setting; a gold-mounted round pendant about size of a half-crown; a gold bangle, set with large topaz edged with pearls ; a ladies’ gold open-face pocket watch with small gold bar at top, rolled-gold chain attached; and some old silver coins including Victorian sixpenny and threepenny pieces ; total value, about £2l. Identifiable except money.

Upper Hutt. — On the 3rd or 4th instant, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Army Department), a . -303 calibre Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle, Mk. I, butt No. 23994, body No. 2326 S., barrel No. 6085, bolt No. 5691, woodwork engraved, “ R. Cooper” scratched in white paint at. butt; value, £5. Identifiable. The rifle was issued to Hector Reginald Vivian Cooper, Mangaroa, a member of the Home Guard, and was stolen from his washhouse.

Wellington. —26th ultimo, the property of the UNITED STATES OP AMERICA GOVERNMENT, a sterling silver Selmer flute, “ U.S.M.C.” engraved near mouthpiece, No. 4490 or 4491 (probably); value, £SO.
