MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.
Telegraphic Reports of Fatal Road Accidents. The following copy of a memorandum received from the Commissioner of Transport is published for the information and attention of members of the Force : “ It has been noticed that the collect telegrams which are sent me by the police reporting deaths from motorvehicle accidents frequently do not mention the time that the accident occurred. Also the location of the accident is sometimes not very clearly defined as the direction as well as the distance from a town or other centre is omitted. Sometimes also where the death of the person occurs subsequently the time of the death is given in the telegram. As far as this office is concerned this latter time is not required, but the time at which the accident occurred is important. “ It would be appreciated if you could draw the attention of police officers to these points.” D. J. Cummings, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 10th June, 1942. (P. 36/1431.)
