Durrant, age about fifty-five, height about 5 ft. 6f in., butcher and cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, hazel eyes, large nose ; wearing a dark-brown suit and felt hat. He obtained £3 cash from Robert Charles Avery, manager, Farmers’ Trading Co., by means of a valueless cheque for that amount, No. 665887, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Matamata. He also falsely represented to complainant that he was a partner in the Premier Meat Co., Matamata. The photograph of Arthur Jeffrey Durrant, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 444, and Photographs, 1940, page 9, has been identified as that of offender. No warrant.

Taumarunui. — 15th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-one days in default of paying £ll ss. fine and costs for supplying liquor to a Maori, Jimmy Williams, alias Jimmy Tamata Tukaiora, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 242.

Hastings.- — 3oth April last, for false pretences, C. W. Henderson, who is believed to be identical with Charles William Grimmond Home, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 463, and the two following paragraphs. He obtained £9 2s. 6d. cash from George Thomas Deakm, licensee, Hastings Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO, drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Timaru, and signed “ C. W. Henderson,” which he tendered in payment of 17s. for his accommodation. No warrant.

Westport. — April last, for false pretences, C. W. Henderson, alias C. W. Home, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, dark complexion and hair ; well dressed ; assumes American accent. He obtained £4 10s. in money from Sidney Arthur Wingate, licensee, Buffer Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £5, No. A. 661602, drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Timaru, in favour of Cash,” signed “ C. W. Henderson” and dated 27/4/42, which he tendered in payment of his accommodation for the night of 25th-26th April last. The cheque is from the cheque-book, No. A. 661591-620, of Charles William Home, and numerous cheques have been issued, the handwriting on each being similar to that of Home’s. Offender may be identical with Charles William Grimmond Home, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 463, and in preceding and following paragraphs. No warrant.

Dunedin. — 21st April last, for false pretences, Charles William Home, age forty-three, height 5 ft. lOJin., rabbiter and salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair. He is identical with Charles William Grimmond Home, referred to in the two preceding paragraphs. He obtained £9 2s. 6d. in money from William Joseph Quirke, licensee, Oban Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO, drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Timaru, in favour of “ cash,” and signed “ C. W. Home,” which he tendered in payment of 17s. for his accommodation. No warrant Msiraj-t&d g/l/^z.

Palmerston North. —14th ultimo, for false pretences, G. Fletcher. He obtained a cheque for £8 17s. 6d. from William Remnant, 87 Te Awe Awe Street, by falsely representing that he was an agent of an Australian firm known as Termites Ltd., and that a preparation (believed to be napthalene) with which he pretended to treat complainant’s dwelling, was guaranteed to exterminate borer. Fie cashed the cheque the same day at Collinson and Cunninghame, Ltd. The photograph of Harold Richardson Kerr, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 137, and Photographs, 1937, page 34, has been identified as that of offender. No warrant.

Lower Hutt. —4th ultimo, on warrant to apprehend for failing to maintain his wife, Constance Hines, and four J'hildren, 65 Randwick Crescent, Edward Martin Hines, age orty, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair going grey, blue eyes, long and pointed nose, natural teeth, left fore and middle fingers stiff; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey hat; erect gait; heavy drinker.

She called at the shop and requested to be shown some rings and also some watches. She was permitted to take the following-described watch out of the shop to show it to some friends, but she disappeared : A ladies’ chromium 15-jewel, round fob, “ Regent ” on dial, black Arabic numerals, fob attachment of black enamel round plate which is attached to clothing with a safety-pin.
