A Man (name unknown) of the following description was alone in the office and had an opportunity to commit the offence: Age about forty, height about 5 ft. 6| in., full face ; dressed in a brown suit, an, open-neck silk shirt, and bowler hat. He may be identical with a Man suspected of committing the theft from the office of Lindsay Ralph Culpan, referred to in Police Gazette, 1942, page 155.

Auckland. 4th or sth March last, from rooms in the Mansions Boardinghouse, Whittaker Place, the property of ANNIE JANE GIBSON, 107 West End Road, Grey Lynn, and another, a white xylonite jewel-case, about 6 in. by 3 in. by 1J in.; a ladies’ gold round wristlet watch, about 1 in. in diameter, gold-coloured Arabic numerals, gold expanding wrist-band of square links; a pair of round pearl ear-rings, about j: in,, in diameter, screw fasteners, small gold chains about 1 in. long; a 9 ct. gold dress ring, originally set with three emeralds about \ in.' in diameter in straight claw setting, and three small diamonds in each side, but one emerald is now missing; an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, set with three small sapphires in straight claw setting and studded with diamonds; an 18 ct. gold dress ring, set with a white sapphire about J in. diameter in claw setting ; a gold pendant with fine gold chain about 18 in. long, olivine drops at ends of two fine gold chains; a pair' of gold'round clip-on earrings, set with green glass ; and a fine gold chain, about 12 in. long with knot in centre where it has been broken, round clip of press type at one end; total value, £49 15s. Between 9th and 13th March last, from the show-room of the ATWATER PIANO CO., Queen Street, an English model side-drum, “ Hawkes ” on triangular plate on side, about 14 in. by 5 in., light-brown wooden shell, chromium rims, tension rods and snare releases slightly rusted ; value, £l6 16s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —15th March last, from the dwelling of IVY LILIAN STRANGE, 9 Matai Road,-Ellerslie, a ladies’ gold (believed 9 ct.) old watch, white dial with “Swiss” thereon, Roman numerals ; a gold heart pendant about size of a shilling, originally set with two pearls in centre, but one is now missing, small loop at top for chain; a 9 ct. gold ring, set with a blister pearl, “ Ruby ” engraved on outside ; a gold Eversharp pencil; a black leather purse, 4 in. by 3 in., opens like a concertina;- containing three Canberra florins ; and £1 in threepenny pieces; total value, £l3 17s. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. 2lst or 22nd March last, from a flat at 156 Grafton Road, the property of EDNA MAY ALEXANDER, a gentlemen’s silver wristlet watch, about 1J in. by 1 in., embossed around edge of crystal, brown leather strap; and £l3 10s. in money; total value, £lB. Watch identifiable.

Auckland.— l6th March last, from the dwelling of ALEXANDER WRIGHT DONALD, Cintra Flats, Whittaker Place, a gentlemen’s silver open-face Omega pocket watch, Roman numerals; a ladies’ Waterman fountain-pen with gold band, no pocket-clip; a pair of light-green sun-glasses, known as Crookes Lenses, in blue imitation crocodile leathercovered case; and a large green-striped shirt with collar attached, “ Thresher and Glenny, London” and “ A.W.D.” on neck; and a steel chain with heart-shaped clip-fastener with five keys attached ; total value, £8 13s. Identifiable.

Paeroa. Between the 14th and 16th March last, the shop of GILMORE ROGERS, ladies’ outfitters, Belmont Road, was broken into and the following stolen: A white locknit nightdress with fawn lace ; a green locknit nightdress with fawn lace ; a green locknit vest and petticoat; a pink locknit underclothing set; and twenty-four pairs of S.W. locknit panties, assorted colours and designs ; total value, £ls. identification doubtful.

Palmerston North. Between the 24th and 31st March last, from a tent at the Oroua River near the Main Road, the property of JOSEPH ALEXANDER AUSTIN, Awahuri, a dark-blue tweed suit with narrow fleck stripes, fit man sft. 2 in., “ Schneideman and Sons” and “ J. A. Austin” on tag, “ 5971 ” on tag on inside coat pocket and in inkpencil on hip pocket, small R.S.A. badge, No. 69562, in lapel; a gentlemen’s dark-brown tweed overcoat, small tear below one pocket; a pair of white canvas tennis shoes, size 7 ; a set of white pyjamas with pink stripes; a set of light-coloured pyjamas with blue stripes; eight pairs of socks of various colours; three locknit singlets; two towels, one blue and the other white with red stripes; nine handkerchiefs of various colours ; and one or two shirts ; total value, £l3 19s. Portion identifiable.

Palmerston North.— l7th ultimo, from the dwelling of LESLIE EARL, Kairanga Road, Bunnythorpe, a gentlemen’s steel-grey suit with two pairs of trousers, pin stripes about \ in. apart, made by Baird's, Waipukurau, fit man 5 ft. 3 in., small tear in coat near left sleeve, two tears in knee of one pair of trousers and been repaired near bottom of one leg ; a grey shirt; a khaki shirt; and a blue shirt with red stripes (all size 16 collars); and 13s. 3d. in money; total value, £l2 3s. 3d. Identifiable except money.

Otaki.— llth ultimo, from the Telegraph Hotel, the property of THOMAS VERNON CAHILL, three silver saltcellars; four silver pepperboxes; two silver mustardservers (may bear one of the following numbers 28156, 25662, or 25671) ; twenty-six curved table-knives, probably Made in Sheffield, England,” and “Firth Brearley Stainless ” on them ; thirteen soup-spoons ; two dessertspoons ; one dessert and four table forks, may have “ Argo, A.M.E., and Co.” on them; and a silver teapot, scalloped design around top, may have “C” on side; total value, £l7 17s. Wellington.— 3lst March, last, from the staff dressingroom of the Regent Hotel, Manners Street, the property of SEAWARD MACGREGOR, porter, a gentlemen’s doublebreasted light-grey mottled overcoat with long wide lapels, wide belt at back, fit man 5 ft. 9 in., fully lined with grey satin, may have an Invercargill maker’s name thereon, lining torn around bottom seam ; and a gentlemen’s rolledgold oblong Swiss wristlet watch, luminous hands and Arabic numerals, rolled-gold wrist-strap about 4 in. wide, with chain in centre and three or four square links on each side of it ; total value, £B. Wellington. About the 20th March last, the property of MOIRA JEAN GUILD, 231 The Terrace, a handbag (recovered); a gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong wristlet watch, case No. 1380, “ D.G.” on back case, Arabic numerals; and a ladies’ silver oblong wristlet watch, case No. 25391, silver-coloured dial, Arabic numerals; total value, £9. Identifiable. Complainant lost the handbag containing the watches, and on the 27th March last the handbag was returned to her by a man who stated that he found it in a dust-bin, in Ghuznee Street.

Dunedin.— l3th or 14th ultimo, from the dwelling of GRACE FAIRLEY TAYLOR, 8 Main Avenue, St, Kilda, a £lO note ; eight £5 notes; £l2 in £1 and 10s. notes; and a ladies’ gold neck-chain about 18 in. long, rope pattern, topaz in gold frame attached, three or four odd links at join, has been a gentlemen’s watch-chain; . total value, £7O.
