SPECIAL NOTICE.

MURDER.

Hokitika. —On the Bth instant, Constable Edward Mark Best of Kanieri, was called to Koiterangi on account of the threatening behaviour of Stanley Erie George Graham (photograph above), who is described below. As Graham was armed with a rifle and threatened to use it, Constable Best went for assistance, and later returned to Graham’s house accompanied by Sergeant William Cooper and Constables Percy Campbell Tulloch and Frederick William Jordan. At about 2.30 p.m. shortly after the arrival of the police at the house shots were fired, and when neighbours investigated they discovered that the three last-mentioned members of the Force had been fatally shot, and that Constable Best, who has since died, and a civilian had been seriously injured. Graham is described as : Age forty-one, height about 5 ft. 4| in., farmer, native of New Zealand, strong muscular build, fresh ruddy complexion, brown hair going bald, blue eyes, nose slightly twisted, artificial teeth. He is an expert rifle shot and dangerous. Every effort is to be made to locate this man, and any information as to his whereabouts is to be urgently communicated to the Inspector of Police, Greymouth.
