PROPERTY STOLEN.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). — 9th July last, the property of JOHN PARRY DAVIDSON, care of Seamen’s Union, a brown leather wallet about 6 in. by 4 in., with “ J.D.” in gold-coloured letters on one corner, containing £ll in notes ; a crew pass for ship “ Matua ” ; a seaman’s discharge; a lifeboat certificate; and a National Service certificate of enrolment, No. 374821 ; total value, about £ll 10s. 6d. Identifiable except money. Complainant lost the wallet.

Auckland. — Afton Post-office, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, broken into (see Police Gazette, 1941, page 590): Several of the stolen postal-notes were cashed in the city on the Bth and 9th ultimo, all bearing the forged post-office stamp (reproduced above) on the left bottom corner. The stamp, on which violet-coloured ink has been used, is of good workmanship, and is about 14 in. diameter with an inner circle. Between the two circles are the following letters: “ M. 0.5.8. Cambridge and across the inner circle is “ 1 Aug., 1941.” Immediately above the date is numeral “ 2 ” which is not part of the stamp, but has been impressed separately. A genuine stamp is octagon shaped. Inquiries are to be made from all rubberstamp manufacturers in the Dominion, and any information obtained which may assist in the investigation is to be urgently communicated to the Superintendent of Police, Auckland. ,

Auckland. —Between the 11th March last and 9th April, from a motor-car or from rooms in the Lister Buildings, Victoria Street, the property of JOHN NORMAN RISHWORTH, 5 Burrows Avenue, Parnell, a 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold brooch in form of dagger which is set with an opal, about 34 in. long, blade and hilt set with opals in box setting, dagger unscrews to permit fastening to garment; als ct. or 18 ct. gold bar brooch, about If in. by f in., crescent in centre which is box-set with pearls and a ruby in box setting at top or bottom, pin fastener; als ct. or 18 ct. gold bar brooch, about If in. by f in., box-set with a ruby in centre, pin fastener; a 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold bar brooch, about 2 in. by J in., pin fastener, pearl box-set in centre; an 18 ct. gold Masonic Past Masters’ emblem, set with a diamond in box setting in centre ; a 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold ring, originally claw-set alternately with three rubies and diamonds, but one diamond is now missing; a 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold ring, claw-set alternately with three pearls and three garnets; and a 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold neck-chain of fine mesh with 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold-chased pendant from which is suspended a 15 ct. or 18 ct. gold pear-shaped drop which is set with an aquamarine; total value, £33 10s. Identifiable. The jewellery was wrapped in a small brown paper parcel.

Auckland. — 17th July last, from a motor-car in High Street, the property of EARNEST WELLESLEY COX, Park Road, Titirangi, a leather brief-bag, 18 in. by 9 in., leather handle, “ E.W.C.” in gold-coloured letters on side; a gentlemen’s blue gaberdine overcoat, about size 5, maker’s tag on inside with “ E. W. Cox ” or “ E.W.C.” on it, blue and red check lining; and a pair of gentlemen’s brown leather gloves ; total value, £4 Bs. Identifiable.

Auckland. 24th July last, from a motor-car in High Street, the property of ALFRED BURTON BEVEGE, 7 Verona Avenue, Mount Albert, a navy-blue suit with alternate lighter blue and grey stripes about 1 in. apart, fit man about 5 ft. 10 in. of about 14 stone, “ Alfred Bevege, Ltd.” on inside breast pocket; value, £ll 11s. Identifiable.

Auckland. — On the 2nd or 3rd ultimo, the office of SPORTS SUPPLIES, LTD., 118-20 Broadway, Newmarket, was broken into and the following stolen : £1 13s. Id. in money ; a set of four-gallon petrol-coupons; four unstrung tennisracquets, two branded “ Sportsply-Majestio,” one branded “ Sportsply - Lady Stylist,” and the other branded “ Sportsply - Royal Crown ” ; total value, £8 7s. 7d. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. — 14th June last, from a room in the Y.M.C.A., the property of DAVID JOHN GREY MACKENZIE, Rora Street, Te Kuiti, a brown fibre suit-case, 30 in. by 20 in. by 10 in., reinforced with two bands ; a large coloured towel; a gentlemen’s grey woollen cardigan with long sleeves; three pairs of woollen socks ; a pair of gentlemen’s white canvas tennis-shoes, size 9 ; three military rope lanyards, two red and the other khaki ; a pair of large nickel-plated scissors ; a hand-knitted woollen scarf, 48 in. long and about 10 in. wide ; a light-grey woollen scarf ; twelve military instruction booklets with complainant’s name therein and branded “ Northern Military School of Instruction ” ; a brown leather money-belt with two zip-fasteners, “ Private MacKenzie, D.J.G., 16th Waikato Regiment ” in ink on inside ; a pair of gentlemen’s black leather shoes,

size 8 ; a gentlemen’s dark-brown woollen cardigan with two pockets and long sleeves ; a gentlemen’s khaki-coloured handknitted woollen pullover of fancy cable stitch; a light-grey flannel shirt with collar attached ; a white cotton shirt with collar attached, size 4, “ D.J.G.M.” in ink on collar a light-blue cotton shirt with white stripes, size 3, collar attached with “ G.M.” in ink on it; a dark-blue suit, “ Minster ” on tag at neck and on inside pocket, purchased from Les. Bryon, Waitara, whose name may be on inside pocket; a gentlemen’s double-breasted dark overcoat with white flecks, vent in back, one outside pocket has smaller pocket inside, dark silk lining, may have “ Boles, Te Kuiti” on it; three gentlemen’s white cotton handkerchiefs, one has “D.J. G. MacKenzie ”in ink on it ; a black composition leather Brownie Junior camera of box type, 6 in. by 4 4 in. by 34 in., takes 620 film, leather strap on top ; a black Swan fountain-pen with gold nib which is slightly bent; a pair of long white woollen underpants, Army issue, No. 64738 thereon in ink ; a black leather wallet, fold-over type, 4 in. by 6| in., containing military correspondence and fourteen post-card-size photographs of complainant in uniform; ss. in money ; a Social Security book in complainant’s name; a National Savings Account book, No. 144275, in complainant’s name ; an unused second-class train ticket, Papakura -Te Kuiti; and a pair of braces ; suspenders, &c.; total value, £lB 17s. Mostly identifiable.

Auckland. During the night of the 7th-Bth July last, the countinghouse of BANKS BOX CO., LTD., Taylor Road, Morningside, was broken into and the following stolen : A Ford V 8 motor-car screwdriver two nickel Ever-Rcady electric torches, about 12 in. long, Nos. 3269/2-3, refills stamped “ 950 ” ; four gallons of benzine ; a pair of gentlemen’s dark leather kid gloves, fasten with straps through loops to dome fasteners ; a black leather wallet of folding type, containing an A.A. membership card in name “ T. E. Dowdle ” ; four black leather bank-note wallets, two have “ Banks Box Co., Ltd.” on them ; a pair of gentlemen’s brown kid gloves, lined with rabbit-skin fur, dome fasteners ; a half bottle of rum ; a ladies’ gold Sonnet ring, set with an opal in which bluish-green are the predominating colours surrounded by fourteen small diamonds set in platinum and raised in oval filigree, value, £2O ; and £2l 9s. Bd. in money ; total value, £46 9s. Bd. Torches, ring, and gloves identifiable. The offender left in the office a note in the name “ The Lone Wolf,” which had been typed on one of the firm’s typewriters.

Auckland. —Between the 10th and 15th April last, from the factory of K.D.V. BOX CO., Morningside, a J h.p. electric motor, of 230 volts, 2,800 revolutions per minute, “ No. K. 9328 (2800 rev.) ” may be branded on it, two-blade fan of Normand make ; value, £9 10s. Identifiable.

Auckland. On the 12th July last, the dwelling of EDGAR CHRISTOPHER METCALFE, Standford Park Road, Mount Roskill, was broken into and the following stolen : An Auckland Savings-bank money-box of book shape, No. 3/5461, containing about £4 in money ; and an Auckland Savings-bank money-box, No. 1/2988; total value, £4 14s. Boxes identifiable.

Auckland.— During the night of llth-12th June last, from a room at 10 Hardinge Street, the property of WILLIAM RUDOLPH, a dark-blue serge suit coat with light-blue stripes about 1 in. apart, half belt, half lined with black silk, made by Hallenstein Bros., Queen Street, and may have their brand on it; value, £4. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to “ Jock ” Smith, age about fortyfive, height about 5 ft. 11 in., miner, slight build, fair complexion, dark hair turning grey, Scottish . accent. He was seen near complainant’s room and the following-described suit coat which was left in place of the one stolen is similar to the one suspect was seen wearing : A navy-blue of shabby appearance, branded “ Don Tailors, Courtenay Place, Wellington.”

Hamilton. 9th ultimo, from Victoria Street, the property of ROBERT HENRY BOOTH, Rototuna, a 1937 model James motor-cycle, two stroke, painted black with red markings, chassis No. H. 9884, engine No. I.E.A. 9226, registration No. 5,449 ; value, £2O. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Between Ist and 21st June last, from a bedroom in the Alhambra Hotel, Cuba Street, the property of MARY SMITH, wife of the licensee, a leather suit-case (recovered) ; a ladies’ navy-blue leather handbag, size 12 in. by 9 in., with imitation gold chain handle the links of which are about § in. in diameter ; a ladies’ blue straw hat with floral trimmings and dark-blue ribbon around brim ; a number of pieces of light-brown and Dlack fur; value, £l2 Bs. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to 0. Bryant (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-three, height about 5 ft. 6 in., strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, scar on bridge of nose, who on the 21st June last pledged the suit-case for 10s. with a pawnbroker. 2 .

Between the 31st May last and 16th June, from the electrician’s shop, Public Hospital, the property of the WELLINGTON HOSPITAL BOARD, a cylindricalshaped aluminium-coloured Black and Decker electric handdrill, No. G.P. 40087, in. chuck, weight about 5 lb., about 6 ft. of flex attached ; value, £l3 7s. 6d. Identifiable.

Wellington.— On the Bth July last, the dwelling of KATHLEEN WILLIAMS, Elmscourt Flats, 361 The Terrace, was broken into and the following stolen : £53 16s. in money including a £SO note, number either Q/U. 005407 or T 037067. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 10 in., good build, pale complexion, dark hair; wearing a light raincoat, who on the Bth July last cashed a £SO note, No. O/U. 005407, at a bank in the city.

Wellington. 24th July last, from the Polish Consular Office, National Bank of New Zealand Buildings, the property of JANETTE MAUD GRANT, 42 Puriri Street, Miramar, a ladies’ dark-grey camel-hair overcoat with sleeves built up at shoulders, back of collar and edge of lapels covered with black velvet, pale-grey satin lining ; value, £6. Identifiable, . The offence may have been committed by a Woman (name unknown), age about twenty-three, slight build, curly fair hair; wearing a light-grey costume with belt (no hat), who was seen near from where the coat was stolen.

Greymouth. During the night of 6th-7th ultimo, the garage of QUINN’S MOTORS, LTD., corner of Sewell and Hampden Streets, was broken into and the following stolen : A battery-charger : a bearing puller ; a washer cutter ; a pair of bolt cutters; five pairs of pliers ; and a 1 quantity of assorted’ \tools, &c. (all recovered); an Alemite Gat Gun high-pressure grease-gun; two small grease-guns of push type ; a shock-absorber filler with flexible nozzle ; a pressure force-feed oil-can ; a set of Hinsdale socket wrenches with handle; six double-ended open-ring spanners; a Yankee No. 555 engineer’s breast drill, painted black, with fiveposition ratchet attachment; a Black and Decker electric drilling-machine and stand; a Rimac No. 81 valve-facing machine, painted grey; three sets of Little Giant stocks, taps, and dies —-one Whitworth thread, one 8.5.
