♦ Auckland.3rd ultimo, for breaking and entering the shop of Douglas Dean with intent to commit theft, Two Men (names unknown) —(1) Age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, light-brown hair; wearing a dark mixed-grey overcoat and black-white check or striped scarf (no hat). (2) Age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, fresh complexion, round face; wearing a bluegrey overcoat (no hat). The complainant, on hearing a noise in his shop about 11.50 p.m., left his bed to investigate, and saw the accused disappearing through the front door. He then discovered that they had broken and entered the shop and had collected cigarettes, postal-notes, clocks, &c., value £65, and prepared them for removal. They were apparently in possession of an old motor-car They abandoned in the shop a rusty ratchet brace of common type with “ Manufactured by J. A. Chapman, Sheffield, England ” on it, handle bound with friction tape, fitted with a Mathieson clean-cut square shank bit, size A in.; and a rusty motor-car tire-lever. No warrant.

Auckland.—4th June last, for assault and robbery, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-two, height about o ft. 2 in., strong build, fair hair and complexion; wearing dark trousers, brown tweed overcoat, and brown shoes (no hat). At 11.15 p.m. on the 4th June last while Dorothy May Walsh, married, 45 Millais Street, Newton, was walking along Millais Street, she was assaulted by the man described above who wrenched her handbag from her. She screamed and a man came to her assistance, whereupon the offender dropped her handbag and ran away. No warrant.

Auckland.—For escaping from Kingseat Mental Hospital, Papakura, on the 15th June last, Florence or Florrie Hardy, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 2 in.,' domestic, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown short hair, brown eyes, scar on forehead and on left thumb; immoral. She was taken from the mental hospital in an Auckland rental motor-car by a Man who gave the name Ray Peterson, but who on hiring the car gave the name Frank Ray Peers. He is described as age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fair hair, blue or grey eyes ; wearing a brown suit with white pin stripes, navy-blue coat, brown shoes, white scarf (no hat). He may have delivered the woman to Chinese for immoral purposes. The driver’s license produced by’him when hiring the car was No. 10423, and is said to have been issued at Auckland in June, 1941.
