When Mr. Glaistc-r left the train at Palmerston North he omitted to take with him his rug which is described below. Bushell, who occupied the same sleeping compartment continued the journey to Wellington, and it is thought that he may have taken possession of the rug which could not be found when the train was searched :* A woollen Petone travelling rug, “ G. F. Glaister ” on tape which was stitched on it, furry brown on one side and check pattern on the other.

When leaving Auckland for Australia on the Bth June, 1940, Rose, evaded the Customs officers, but they seized his suit-case, and on examining its contents they found a fullyloaded -25 calibre s.s. automatic pistol and ninety rounds of ammunition. This firearm has never been registered. When he returns to this Dominion he is to be interviewed regarding the breaches of the Arms Act. , ,

Auckland. —lsth February last, on warrant for theft of £1 135., the property of Walter Buchanan, Ltd., bakers, Eden Terrace, Cecil Irvine McKnight, age about twenty-six height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native.of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, coloured hair, light- eyes, right forefinger missing. Accused, who was employed by the complainant firm as a roundsman delivering bread in Mount Albert district, obtained £1 13s. from a customer, Winifred Sidle, on terms requiring him to pay that amount to his employers, but he fraudulently omitted to do so. There are other charges pending, and when he is arrested he is to be remanded to Auckland.

Huntly. — Edward John Coyne, failing to maintain (see Police Gazette, 1941, page 219), left this Dominion for Australia in December, 1938.

Napier. 6th January last, for unlawfully converting to his own use a motor-cycle, value, £2O, the property of Thomas Richard Nightingale, 42 Dickens Street, Gordon Hobbs, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 241, and Photographs, 1940, page 57. Accused obtained the motor-cycle described below from complainant by paying a deposit of £4 and agreeing to pay the balance on the 21st December last. Subsequently he obtained a refund of the deposit on condition that he paid the whole amount of £2O the following day, but this was not done. On the 31st December complainant saw him and gave him to noon on Ist January to return the motor-cycle. Hobbs left Napier on the 6th January, and did not return the machine : A black 2} h.p.
