Suspicion is attached to Robert Francis Reuben Hennessey, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 978. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. —-6th ultimo, from a motor-car, the property of VICTOR DEL LA VARIS, 24 Rowans Road, Mount Eden, a suit of dark-brown with white-fleck material, brown lining, one button on coat, “ Kiddey ” on neck ; value, £ll. Identifiable.

Ellerslie. On the 3rd ultimo, the dwelling of LILY DIDOVICH, 499 Great South Road, Penrose, was broken into and the following stolen : £1 in money ; a shavingbrush ; and a ladies’ gold wristlet watch with fancy engraving around dial, gold hands, “ Lily H ” scratched on back, gold expanding wrist-strap ; total value, £5.

During the night of the 9th instant, the shop of JOHN FRANCIS RAYMOND COURT, Market Street, was broken into and the following stolen : About five woollen pullovers; about three pairs of saddle-tweed trousers, sizes 3 and 4 ; two woollen undervests ; an overcoat, size 3 ; a tie ; three shirts with attached collars; a set of pyjamas; a Petone sports coat of rusty-brown colour with fawn check, size 4 ; and Bs. 3d. in money ; total value, £l9. Rotorua. 3oth ultimo, from a dressing-shed at Rotorua Lake, the property of ROSEMARY HELEN HERROLD, 35 Fenton Street, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold oblong wristlet watch with “ Mountfourt ” or a similar name on dial, Arabic numerals, “ A.W.D.” engraved on back case, double cord wrist-band ; value, £5. Wairoa. Between the Ist and 15th November last, the camp of ROBERT MACGREGOR MOWAT at Lake Waikaremoana was broken into and the following stolen : A single cylinder air-cooled 2 h.p. outboard motor, model S.M. engine under which is “ No. B. 8906 ” on a small brass plate, propeller and shaft are made mostly of aluminium, and are encased in an aluminium container which forms the petrol tank, “ J. D. Parminter, Radio Supplies, Wairoa ” and “ Eclipse Outboard Motor ” on transfer on top of petroltank, weighs about 25 lb.; value, £2B. Identifiable.

Opunake.— lsth November last, from the dwelling of JOHN MORTON WELSH, farmer, Nopera Road, Piliama, a bicycle (recovered), and £5 Os. Cd. in money. Suspicion is attached to Douglas Alexander Kerr, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 32, and Photographs, 1937, page 8, who was employed by complainant on the 14th November last, and next day during the temporary absence of his employer and family' he disappeared.

Palmerston North. 2oth ultimo, from a room in the Family Hotel, 263 Rangitikei Street, the property of ASH LEY JENKINS, Opaki, a silver open-face split-second stop watch with “Stewart Dawson, Wellington on dial; a white metal curb single albert from which one swivel is missing; a pair of French field-glasses, 8/30 lens, “ Ashley Jenkins ” on plate; a pair of locknit underpants; and about ss. in money; total value, £2l. Watch and field-glasses identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Robert 171 art in Fennell, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 722, and Photographs, 1928, page 57, who was employed papering and painting the hotel. Fennell is also suspected of stealing £2 ss. in money from the room of the licensee’s wife, Lillian Havill. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted. On the 24th ultimo he disappeared leaving his effects, including a gentlemen’s bicycle at the hotel.

Palmerston North. — Between the Ist June and the 19th November last, from the dwelling of FLORENCE PEG DEN, 169 Victoria Avenue, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold wristlet watch with expanding bracelet, Arabic numerals, “ To Florence from Father, 1913 ” engraved on back ; four pairs of pink underpants ; and about £1 in money; total value, £7. Watch identifiable.

Palmerston North. loth ultimo, from a room in the public hospital, the property of EVELYN MAY EDEN, a salmon-pink glass vase about 6 in. high with oblong base; value, 3s. lid. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Sally IWardell, age about nineteen, height about 5 ft. 4 in., domestic, slight build, fair complexion, fair hair, thin features. She had been employed at the hospital, but was dismissed for stealing from other members of the staff. She may be identical with Joyce Thelma Day, referred to in Police Gazette, 1941, page 77. Wellington. — l6th ultimo, from a lavatory on the ship “ Matangi ” between Nelson and Wellington, the property of MARY ELIZABETH CAMERON, 132 Elizabeth Street, a gold engagement ring, size M., No. 1522, set with a large round diamond in centre with three chip diamonds on each side, all set in platinum; value, £lO. Between the 10th November last and the 18th ultimo, the bach of RICHARD TAYLOR, Hospital Road, was broken into and the following stolen: A steel cash-box; a cameo brooch representing bust of a female, mounted on gold band; a ladies’ open-face key winding gold watch with gold dial, Roman numerals; a large greenstone heart with hook or loop where chain was previously attached, gold bar across centre with “ Kia Ora ” inscribed ; a double-bar gold brooch, about 2 in. long with small piece broken from one end ; a gold wide wedding ring ; five dress rings with different classes of stones; a large scroll brooch, set with stones in the form of spray, one stone or part of stone missing ; a ladies’ gold chain about 3 ft. long ; and a gentlemen’s gold hunting keyless watch with Roman numerals, heavy gold chain attached, also small light chain attached to fastener ; total value, £92. Mostly identifiable.

Christchurch. —Between June and October, 1940, the property of ALLISON WILKINSON, 183 Gardiner’s Road, Styx, a double-barrelled hammerless Knickerbocker shotgun, No. 176717, branded “ American Gun Company,” stock split and butt-plate loose ; value, £3. Identifiable.

Christchurch. — 29th ultimo, from the railway-station, the property of ORMOND HUTCHINSON, Mt. Pleasant, a set of nine Akurasy golf clubs consisting of a brassie, driver, spoon, three, four, five, six, and seven irons, and a putter, brown steel shafts with green hand-grips, “ Reg. Christchurch. 23rd November last, from a dwelling at 220 Brougham Street, the property of DORREEN ELIZABETH CO D YRE, 312 Lincoln Road, an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, set with nine diamonds in a cluster, platinum shoulders and setting ; value, £2O. Identifiable.

Lincoln. —Between the Ist September and 25th November, last, from a hut at Ladbrooks, the property of THOMAS CHARLES FOSTER, a 12-gauge double-barrelled hammerless Bayard shot-gun, No. 15044 ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

Dunedin. RICHARD DOUGLAS STEWART’S motorcar stolen (sec Police Gazette, 1941, page 4). The doors and some other minor parts of the car have been found in the Taieri River. The chassis, engine, and other unrecovered parts may have been converted into a truck.
