Auckland. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, R. Brown, alias Richard Williamson, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, medium complexion, wavy fair hair with slight traces of grey, grey eyes, straight nose, prominent fleshy growth on inside corner of right eye ; dressed in a grey doublebreasted worsted suit or a navy-blue single-breasted suit, white scarf, and brown and grey check overcoat with belt, and sometimes wears horn-rimmed glasses ; quiet, speech and reticent. Accused obtained £lO from Dave Birrell O’Malley, draper, 111 Great South Road, Otahuhu, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount, No. A. 129473, drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Auckland, in favour of R. Brown, and signed “F. Smith.” From the 19th March last to 21st May he was employed by Leonard Howard, farmer, Takanini, and was known by the name Richard Williamson. He left suddenly on the 21st May, and on the preceding night his employer’s house was broken into and the following stolen : A cheque-book on the Bank of Australasia, Auckland, Nos. A. 129469-A. 129490 ; an electric iron; a saw bread-knife ; a gentlemen’s check heather mixture overcoat, size 5, “ A. Howard, Gents. Outfitter, Matamata ” on tag; a set of fawn and brown striped pyjamas ; two shirts of Summit brand ; a pair of gentlemen’s black shoes, size 6 ; four white pillow-slips; a Sheafler’s fountain-pen ; and a bottle of Swan ink ; total value, £ls. Auckland. —On or about the 23rd April last, for false pretences, Ronald Rugg, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., painter, native of Australia, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, pug nose ; dressed in a navyblue suit and black shoes (no hat) ; high-pitched voice ; speaks slowly. Accused obtained £l6 in money from Thomas Henry Milligan, 282 Ponsonby Road, by falsely representing that a motor-cycle which he sold to complainant was his own property and fully paid for, whereas in fact he held it on a hire-purchase agreement with George Richard Holton, dealer, 666 Dominion Road, and still owed £l2 10s. on it. He left this Dominion with his wife and child in April last. No warrant.

Auckland. — ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for four days in default of paying £3 fine and costs for using indecent language, Patrick John O’Keefe, alias Magloyne, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 408, and Photographs, 1934, page 63.

Papakura. — l7th ultimo, for a breach of his probation (Offenders Probation Act, 1920), Harry Boyce Lauder, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 775, and Photographs, page 90. He has failed to report to a Probation Officer, and his arrest is desired. j. l/io/w- ---

Hastings. 3lst ultimo, on warrant for being a rogue and vagabond in that he was found by night without lawful excuse in a hayshed, the property of George William Burnett Greene, horse-trainer, 304 Gascovgne Street, George Cuthbert Turnbull, referred to in Police Gazette, 1937, page 76, and Photographs, 1922, page 107. Empty sacks had been stolen from Greene’s feed-room, and two employees who had been watching discovered accused in an adjoining shed with a bundle of sacks alongside him.
