Accused obtained the fur coat described below from Sterlings, 12 His Majesty’s Arcade, on a hire-purchase agreement by falsely representing that she lived at 94 Remuera Road, and was the wife of Captain Holland, Devonport Naval Base. She paid £4 16s. deposit on the coat, and signed the agreement “ Margert Holland ” : A musquash fur coat, 42 in. long and 34 in. chest, lined with Japanese art silk of grey-fawn colour with raised zig-zag design of brighter shade, skins scalloped and pointed at bottoms, dark markings at points, Peter Pan collar with revers, fawn to brown tie cord on collar with tassels, fur-covered buttons under collar which fastens with loop, fawn bone button at centre which fastens with loop, builtout shoulders, tight cuffs with pouch elbows, two outside slit pockets, one inside slit pocket down edge of lining near right side of collar which may have “ 3138 ” or similar number sewn inside; value, £37. Identifiable. No warrant.

Accused may be identical with a man of the same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 290. The photograph of Percival Richard Williams, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 290, and Photographs, 1933, page 84, has been identified as that of the offender. No warrant. Lower Hutt. —9th December last, for theft of a gentlemen’s bicycle (recovered), value, £5, the property of Horace Wentworth Rainey, Point Howard, Albert Leonard Hansen, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 480, and Photographs, page 51. The bicycle was stolen from Lower Hutt and sold to a second-hand dealer at Kilbirnie, Wellington, by a man who gave the name A. Harris. The dealer has identified the photograph of Hansen as being that of the man who sold the bicycle, and he is to be interviewed regarding the offence. No warrant. JSee following paragraph.) j

Savage, signed F. Whiteman, and dated 16/12/39.
