Auckland. Between the 18th /md 23rd August last, from the dwelling of JESSIE ALBERTA BELL, 40 Upland Road, Remuera, a ladies’ 18 ct. gold half-hoop ring with five diamonds in claw setting ; a ladies, 18 ct. gold ring, set with a square emerald in centre with a diamond on each side in claw setting; a narrow band platinum ring with three diamonds in claw setting; and a cameo necklace, set in fine gold mesh chain, cameos are very pale pink and set 1 in. apart; total value, £l7O. Identifiable.

Auckland. On the 14th and 28th October last, from a caravan in Cadman’s Garage, the property of CHARLES ROBERT LANGDON, 46 Grey’s Avenue, £ls in money; a gentlemen’s silver open-face dress watch, silver dial, gold Roman numerals, gold floral decorations on dial, gold hands, back case engine-turned ; a gentlemen’s silver pocket watch, No. 4545216, “ Howard ” on dial, “ Presented to Charles R. Langdon from the Wellington Shipwright’s Union for services rendered on inside case; a gentlemen’s large brass watch with piece broken out of dial, Roman numerals; and a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold spiral tie-pin with a ruby set in gold ; total value, £lB 10s. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. — the 24th and 26th October last, from the office of CEDRIC HANKINSON KNIGHT, servicestation proprietor, Great South Road, Otahuhu, a cheque for £9, No. B. 585679, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Thames, payable to Knight’s Service Station, and signed “ Hauraki Plains Meat Company,” marked” Not Negotiable a cheque for £1 95., No. 202641, drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Newmarket, payable to Knight’s Service Station, and signed “ Quality Fruits N.Z., Ltd.” marked “ Not negotiable ” ; and £29 15s. Bd. in money. Cheques identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Howard Vernon Marx, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, brown hair. He is employed by the complainant, and has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. —l6th December last, from a motor-car, the property of NORMAN GEORGE GRIFFITHS, 228 Richmond Road, Grey Lynn, a trumpet-shaped Klaxon dual motorcar horn, 15 in. long, maroon-coloured base, chromiumplated disc fitted into the bell mouth of each trumpet; value, £25. Identifiable.

Gisborne. —On the 25th ultimo, the shop of the DERBY STREET TYRE SERVICE was broken into and £1 os. 6d. in money stolen. Suspicion is attached to —(1) Raymond B, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 960. (JfClarence Henry Spencer, referred to in Police Gazette, J 1939, page 875. Identifiable. Complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully removed from Dixon Street, and when it was recovered next day in Daniell Street the wireless set had been stolen.

Wellington. —l3th December last, from the beach at Lyall Bay, the property of JOAN BANKS, 14 Hobson Street, a ladies’ handbag (recovered), containing about £1 in money; a gold ring, set with a sapphire in box-setting with three brilliants on each side of it; a ladies’ oblong chromium wristlet-watch with black dial, chain wristlet attached; a greenstone tiki with silver chain attached; and a cigarette-case; total value, £23 15s. Identifiable except money.

Wellington. Between the 30th December last and 3rd ultimo, the shop of GEORGE AND GEORGE, LTD., 117 Riddiford Street, was broken into and the following stolen: Two brown leather golf jackets ; a fused greenishgrey Standard coat-shirt with blue stripes; a navy-blue suit coat, size 4, “ George and George, Wellington ” on tag ; about twelve pairs of fancy socks, size 10, chiefly grey and blue, some Wolseley and some Jacquard ; two pairs of fancy knit bathing-shorts, one pair black and the other grey; a Canterbury interlock sports shirt, size 4; a Canterbury interlock sports shirt, size 4, green with red, gold, and green monogram ; about twelve gentlemen’s ties of various colours, some branded ‘‘George and George”; a fawn raincoat, probably size 4 ; a green sports coat, probably size 4; and a pair of grey sports trousers : total value, £lB 11s. 6d. Not identifiable.

Christchurch.— 27th November last, from the King George Hotel, the property of the licensee, JOHN MICHAEL COFFEY, a Rogers four-valve table model radio set, size about 12 in. by 6 in. by 6 in., black and brown walnut case, red and black dial; and a -22 calibre Remington repeating rifle’ No. 653785 ; total value, £l6 2s. S. McKenzie; total value, £36 11s. 6d. Identifiable except money.

Dunedin. Between the 22nd and 27th November last, from the ship “ Waiana,” between Wellington and Dunedin, the property of the UNION STEAM SHIP CO, seventeen Japanese chromium-plated clocks, round shape, with aeroplane blade on each side, black dial with English numerals 3,6, 9, and 12 only; value, £ls. Identification doubtful.

Dunedin. the 20th December last, from the shop of CHARLES SONTAG, LTD., a Hammond chromium-plated synchronous 230-volt electric alarm clock, black bakelite base, bevelled silver-plated hands, hand-spun silver dial on mirrored background, black numerals, branded “ Empress,” size 4f in. by 5| in.; and a Hammond synchronous 230-volt electric wall and kitchen clock, ivory colour with chrome fluted side bands, black hands, white dial, black numerals, branded “ Stewardess,” size 5 in. by 6|- in. ; total value, £6 17s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to .Man (name unknown), age about forty-five, height 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, ruddy complexion; wearing a navy-blue coat, dark worsted trousers, and grey felt hat. Twice during the afternoon this man made minor purchases, on each occasion being left alone in the shop.

Dunedin. JOHN HENRY DODDS’ motor-cycle stolen (see Police Gazette, 1939, page 428): James Mervyn Philp, referred to in Police Gazette, 1940, page 121, has been charged with the offence by the Christchurch police. The motorcycle has not been recovered.
