Kaikohe. the night of 14th ultimo the PROGRESSIVE STORES were broken into and the following stolen: A 12-gauge double-barrel breech-loading shot-gun, Nos. 33679 and 600, Belgian make; value, £l2 10s. Auckland. —l6th April last, the property of ALICE ALEXANDRIA „ HARRIS, 30 Park Avenue, Grafton, a dark-brown Kolynski fur necklet, made from two skins each about 16 in. long and joined with a swivel, two heads, tortoise-shell chain for fastening, two sets of claws on each skin; and a new Church of England prayer-book with navy-blue cover, gilt-edged leaves, size 41 in. by 34 in., “ ss. 6d.” on one corner inside cover: total value, £lO 15s. 6d. Necklet only identifiable. Complainant left the property in a taxi which she had hired, and the taxi-driver placed it on a shelf in the rear of the car. Later the same day the taxi was hired by John Andrew Matthews, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 308, and Photographs, page 28, and Harry Manning, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 356, and Photographs, page 51, and they may have committed the offence. They have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

On the 14th ultimo, from the shop of BRITISH ELECTRO PLATING CO., Bollard Avenue, New Lynn,_a_ Baby Hermes portable typewriter, serial No. 135219; a chromium-plated mascot woman with both hands on left hip; a black duco-sprayed automatic cigarette case and lighter; a chromium-plated cigarette case, medallion of King George V a'nd Queen Mary on front total value, £l6 6d. Identifiable.

Auckland. —4th May last, from 21 Hellabv’s Building, Queen Street, the property of REGINALD WALTER MANDER, a gentlemen’s English dark-brown leather overcoat, lined with brown material of check design, leather belt which had been lengthened, lining of pocket on right side torn; and a small torch : total value, £4 10s. Identifiable. On the same day the coat was pledged with a pawnbroker by a man of the following description, but it has not been recovered: P. P. Ferney (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., carpenter, strong build, dark hair, broken nose; dressed in a dark- suit with stripes (no hat).

Epsom. 22nd ultimo, from a washhouse at 238 Green Lane Road, the property of WILLIAM ROBERT SANDERSON, Okupu, Great Barrier Island, a -22 calibre Winchester repeating rifle, No. 64623, model 62 ; value, £5 15s. Identifiable. The offence may have been committed by a Man (name unknown), age about forty-five, height about 6 ft., hawker, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair’; ' dressed in a dark-brown suit and dark-grey felt hat. He was carrying a suit-case, and he was seen to call at the house on the day the offence was committed.

Walroa. During January last, from the dwelling of MARY ELIZABETH MoKAY, Waiputaputa, a ladies’ gold round wristlet-watch with flexible bracelet, octagon- . shaped white dial with “ Prebble Bros., Wairoa,” on it, Arabic numerals; a gold oval ring set with opal in cluster of twelve small diamonds; and a gold ring set with a ruby in centre : total value, £39. Identifiable.

Lower Hutt. —17th May last, from the dwelling of MARGARET CHIENE D’ATH, 33 Norton Park Avenue, a gold circular brooch set with four diamonds in platinum setting, small gold chain with small gold safety-pin attached ; a 22 ct. gold crescent brooch, filigree design; a pair of 18 ct. gold sleeve-links ; a gold thimble; a thin gold chain, about 48 in. long, repaired with copper wire in two places; a gentlemen’s old-gold open-face key-wind watch, gold dial and hands, gold key attached with small chain; an old imitation gold turnip watch (broken), white dial, no hands; an 18 ct. gold ring, claw set with five large ruby-coloured Cingalese sapphires ; a 22 ct. gold ring, claw set with five cloudy-blue turquoises which are turning green with age; a gentlemen’s 9 ct. or 15 ct. gold watch-chain, single links, brass swivel at one end; an 18 ct. gold safety-pin, about 3 in. long, repaired at hinge; some pieces of Brussels lace, “ E.A.I. ” on one piece, wrapped in a white handkerchief which has “ J.H.D. ” in white on one corner ; 2s. 6d. in threepenny pieces; and a box containing three cakes of toilet soap, “Du Barry” and “David Jones, Sydney” on it: total value, £7B 9s. Identifiable, except money and soap.

Petone.— On the 19th May last, the dwelling of SIDNEY EDMUND EXLEY, York Bay, Eastbourne, was broken into and the following stolen: A gold engagement-ring set with nine diamonds in square platinum setting, setting tilted in one corner; a gilt brooch, floral design of pale-green flowers, moonstone effect; and a new Boomerang mouthorgan : total value, £ll 10s. 6d. Ring identifiable.

Wellington. 6th ultimo, from a motor-car in Mercer Street, the property of DOROTHY TANNER, 44 Eitzherbert Terrace, a blue composition suit-case, about 24 in. by 18 in. by 8 in., probably Revelation make, containing an antique moire frock of white satin, trimmed with real lace and has an antique gold brooch set with diamonds and rubies; an antique cream-coloured gauze shawl, embroidered in mauve and has mauve border; a small ivory ■ fan; three white antimacassars, two are network and the other crochet; two old-fashioned white muslin embroidered petticoats; and a pair of black velvet court shoes : total value, £25. Identifiable.

Timaru. —18th May last, from the dwelling of MARTIN JOSEPH McPHERSON, 136 North Street, the property of JESSIE CLARK, 3 Exeter Street, Waimate, a brown leather pocket-wallet; a small brown leather purse ; a war veteran’s allowance certificate issued at Waimate in the name J. P. Clark; sundry papers and receipts in name J. P. Clark; a small foreign copper coin (possibly an American cent); about 2s. 6d. in money; and a ladies’ 18 ct. gold ring, set with six diamonds and two rubies in straight claw setting, diamonds are smaller than rubies, and some claws are slightly open: total value, £25 12s. 6d. Identifiable except money.
