Whangarei. — llth March last, from a [dressing- shed at Kamo Springs Baths, the property of ALEXANDER HENTY, 2 Shortland Street, a gentlemen’s fifteen-jewel Titan wristlet-watch with silver oxidized case, No. 277, Arabic numerals, “ Peter, 24 • 5 • 37 ” engraved on inside of back case, chromium adjustable wrist-band; value, £3. Identifiable.

Whangarei. Between the 12th and 15th March last, from a bedroom in the Windsor Private Hotel, the property of RAYMOND JOHN SKYRME, a gentlemen’s gold rectangular wristlet-watch with gold dial, luminous Arabic numerals, No. 596742, gold-plated wrist-band to which two links have been added ; value, £6. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to George Well Brown, referred to in Police Gazette, 1931, page 233, who has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Auckland. —Between the 27th January and 3rd February last, from the shipbuilding yards of CHARLES BAILEY AND SONS, LTD., Beaumont Street, Freeman’s Bay, a Jin. Rotax special electric drill, aluminium finish, branded “ A.C.” or “ D.C.,” Universal Motors Load Speed, 450 R.P.M., Volts 250, Amperes 11, Rotax Ltd., London, N.W. 10,” about 17 in. overall, and 18in. across handles value, £lB. Identification doubtful.

Auckland. On the 20th or 21st February last, from a room at 183 Hobson Street, the property of LEONARD STANLEY O’FLAHERTY, seaman, H.M.S. “ Philomel,” a five-valve National broadcast wireless-set, serial No. 273, chest model, size 18 in. by 12 in. by 12 in.; value, £6 17s. 6d. identifiable.

Epsom. —l6th February last, from a garage at 631 Manukau Road, the property of CHHOTU NARNAGI, fruiterer, a gentlemen’s silver wristlet-watch, square dial, Arabic numerals, “C. Patel” engraved on inside case; value, £4 7s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, fair complexion, dark hair ; dressed in a blue suit (no hat.)

Marton. —22nd or 23rd March last, from the garage of NOEL GEORGE GOODALL, Turakina, a 1930 model 3J h.p. black Ariel motor-cycle, pillion seat attached, electric light, some paint worn off tank, engine No. K. 1829, registration No. 10-355 ; value, £3O. Identifiable,

Palmerston North. During the night of 10th ultimo, the countinghouse of WRIGHT, STEPHENSON, AND CO., LTD., Oxford Street, Levin, was broken into and the following stolen: About £135 in money. About the same time Yates Cash Stores, Oxford Street, were also broken into and the following stolen: Some books (recovered); and a safe containing £6 4s. in money. The books were recovered from a plantation at Weraroa. Footprints found at the scene of the latter crime were of a boot or shoe, size 7, with an uskide sole and heel.

Palmerston North. 27th March last, the property of RICHMAND VERNON HOOPER, a set of motor registrationplates for current year, No. 110,851 ; value 2s. Identifiable. They were stolen from a motor-car (the property of the above-mentioned complainant) which was unlawfully removed from its garage and was recovered at Tauranga on the 31st March last in a damaged condition. It then had affixed a set of motor registration-plates, No. 205,057, which had been stolen from a motor-car on the roadside near Bulls. When the car was recovered at Tauranga an Automobile Association hand-book“ Signs and Signals ” with “ Bert Bennet ” written in pencil on front coverwas found in a pocket in the car. Suspicion of having unlawfully converted the motor-car to his own use is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about thirty, wearing a blue suit, who was accompanied by another man, age about twenty-three, height 6 ft., dark complexion; dressed in a brown suit. The stolen registration-plates, No. 110,851, may be attached to the following described motor-car which was unlawfully taken from Tauranga on the 28th or 29th March last, and has not been recovered : A grey Morris 12 sedan, engine No. 39248, chassis No. S.T.W. 102364, and had registrationplates, No. 44,033, value £275, the property of George Drichton Maltby, Morris Street, Tauranga.

Masterton. During the night of 11th March last, the hotel of HUGH SWAINSON, Lake Ferry, was broken into and the following stolen : Two bottles of whisky; six bottles of beer ; two bottles of champagne ; £4 in coppers and some silver; a cash-box, 14 in. by 9 in. by 6 in., containing a cheque-book on the Union Bank of Australia, Martinborough, No. 3 B 018541 to 3 B 018600, with about forty unused forms: total value, about £7 10s. Cheque-book only identifiable. On the 31st March last one of the stolen chequeforms, No. 3 B 018562, to which complainant’s signature had been forged, and which had been made out for £l6 Bs. 3d. in favour of A. B. Reid or “ order” and endorsed A. B. Reid,” was presented by a man, of whom no description is available, to the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Masterton, and cashed.

Lower —During the night of 22nd February last, the office of the NEILSEN MOTOR BODY BUILDERS, LTD., Railway Avenue, was broken into and the following stolen: A cheque No. L.D. 1555, for £2 11s. 6d., drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Petone, signed C. J. Annett and C. L. Neilsen, marked “not negotiable” ; two cheque forms, Nos. P. 03437 and P. 03438, on the bank referred to ; a Brownie box camera, 620 size, handle-strap slightly torn; ss. in stamps ; and Bs. 6d. cash. Value of camera, £1 Is. Identifiable except money and stamps.

Timaru. Between the Ist January and 20th March last, from the dwelling of Ivan Finlay, the property of GEORGE FINLAY, 27 Park View Terrace, a -22 calibre single-shot Favourite rifle, No. 906, made by the Arms Co., America, model 1915 ; value, £1 10s. Identifiable. . 'WunA&t&ds ?////££

Timarxt. —14th ultimo, from a mail-bag between the Pukeuri amd Oamaru Post-offices, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department), a registered letter marked “ 0.H.M.5., Remittance, The Postmaster, Oamaru,” containing three £5 notes and twelve £1 notes, registered number “ 51 ” on envelope.

Dunedin.— -Between the Ist October, 1937, and 27th March last, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a -303 calibre short M.L.E. 11l Star rifle, No. 894/9532 ; value, £B. Identifiable. The rifle was issued to the late Sergeant-Major A. W. Johnson, who failed to return it, and it is considered likely that he sold it.
