NiCOll, age about thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark sunburned complexion, dark hair going bald, brown eyes, sharp features ; dressed in light-coloured trousers and blue-green sports coat; talkative ; smart appearance. Accused obtained from Dorothy Waterson, Katikati, £1 as a deposit on a tier of aluminium steamers which were to be delivered, but this has not been done. He obtained similar deposits from other persons, and failed to deliver the articles or return the deposits. He is said to have a model T. Ford motor-car, and if he is located he is to be interviewed. He may be identical with Cyril Humphrey Nichplls, referred to in Police Gazette, 1936, page 193, and93B/page 832. No warrant. Accused, who was employed as a salesman by the Farmers’ Co-operative Society, Hawera, obtained £25 from Alfred Smith, farmer, Rama Road, Manaia, by means of a valueless cheque for £25 Os. 6d., drawn on the Bank of Australasia, Hawera, signed I. A. Douglas, and post-dated 12/4/39. He left Taranaki on the 17th ultimo, and was then in possession of a medium-brown 1938 Hudson 1-12 sedan motor-car, engine No. 8940142, registration No. 90-676, fitted with a radio. It is alleged that he obtained this car by false pretences from the Dominion Motors, Ltd., New Plymouth, on the 31st March last. * /J.&3J

Wellington. —sth January last, for theft of a diamond ring (recovered), value £l7 10s., the property of Margaret May Larking, 59 Vivian Street, Ruby Mason, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., waitress and housemaid, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, brown hair, unsightly artificial teeth. Accused occupied a room opposite the bathroom in the Y.W.C.A. building, Boulcott Street, and complainant left the ring in the bathroom. On the 24th January last the ring was recovered from a pawnbroker to whom it had been pledged for 12s. by the woman described above, who gave her name as R. Mason. No warrant.

Wellington. l9th ultimo, that he may be located with a view to taking proceedings against him for being in possession of an unregistered firearm, Robert James Washington, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., seaman and die-caster, native of Australia, good build, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes. He procured a permit from the Arms Office, Wellington, on the 3rd June, 1938, and on the same day he purchased from Witcombe and Caldwell, Ltd., Wellington, a *22 calibre single-shot Remington rifle, model 41, No. 194523, and failed to have it registered.
